I have a 1996 plymouth breeze and every time i turn the steering wheel it makes a really bad creek noise. I checked the power steering fluid and its fine but it still makes the noise

Check the fan belt for the pump if it is worn out or the tension is incorrect. Other than that inspect for leaks from the hoses and from the steering rack underneath. It may be bad rings or seals.

Rack and pinion leaking power steering fluid through boot on right hand side. is this rebuildable or do i have to replace hole thing

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.

It is possible to rebuild power steering racks but most mechanics have not done it in years and some require special tools to perform the procedure. Industry standard is to replace the power steering rack assembly. If there is a fluid leak in the boot the rack needs to be replaced.

I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please ask.

I suggest you to replace the power steering rack. You can get Power Steering Rack for all Plymouth models at http://www.carsteering.com/steeringparts/Plymouth/Power_Steering_Rack.html

Have a Lincoln Cont. 1999 that eats power steering , does not leak out any where, but smells like its being burnt. Where does it go and how to fix ?

there has to be a leak if you are continually topping up the steering fluid.check the power steering lines closely for leak it may just be a pinhole leak.if this has rack&pinion steering check the bellows(rubber boots on either side of the rack)the fluid could be leaking into the boots past the inner seals.if it is then the rack will have to be replaced and an alignment done.check the power steering pump for any leaks as well.if it has conventional steering check the steering box seals for leaks and the hoses as well.

I went to drive my car to work this morning and lost the power steering feels like it locked up the leak of power steering fluidf is leaking from the rack and pinion not pump

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If that's the case then the oil seals of the rack and pinion should be replaced. If the seals are worn out it tends to leak and can definitely feel a loss of power. If it still leaks even after the replacement then the rack and pinion should be replaced.

There are instances that after oil seal replacement it still leaks it's because that the rack and pinion has severe damage.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

,,my alero is leaking steering wheel fluid from the right side of the car, what could this be

There are 3 likely culprits:
  1. One of the hydraulic lines or hoses is damaged.
  2. The power steering pump seal is leaking.
  3. The rack and pinion seals are leaking.
Below is drawing of the system components. A thorough visual inspection of all of the components should allow you to track down the source of the leak.

1998 plymouth breeze is hard to steer. The power steering fluid is fine.

I would expect teither the power steering pump or the steering rack has failed. The good fluid in the unit is just not being put to use.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

I have a minor broken seal on my rack and pinion

There is but it's not going to help, the rack and pinion steering has large amount of pressure on it when you turn the steering wheel. If the seal is bad, sooner not later. The seal will fail and you lose all the power steering fluid and the power steering which can in turn also damage the rack and pinion. The safest and cheapest thing to do is get it repaired before it get's worst and you end up replacing the rack and pinion too. Good luck and keep me posted. be glad to help

Power steering fluid leaking out

yes that is possible, and no the fluid is not supposed to be in those boots. the part you are talking about is your steering rack- if fluid is comming out of the boots, that means the seals in the rack are damaged. they are not servicable, the rack must be replaced.hope this helps and good luck

My 97 Breeze battery is behind the left front wheel. Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right, and lock in position. Remove the access plate in the wheel well.
