Why will my new sparkplugs not fire? After going through a puddle and rain and having my car stall out...it would not start. We changed out the sparkplugs and plug covers and it will not turn over.

I don't know I don't know. I can't start it to get it to a place with a diagnostic machine. it is an old car..a 91...wouldn't even begin to know about codes. I am not automotively inclined and can't afford to just take it to a shop. I am relying on a friend who is just troubleshooting but really doesn't know why it won't start. I also can't afford to just replace part after part after part. Just looking for input and ideas, thanks so much for yours! I don't know I don't know. Unfortunately my car has a check engine light that has stayed on for two years since I got it. And if has been over a week since it went through the puddle. I don't think anything is still wet. He only gets a chance to work on it sporadically. Thanks for all your comments though. Guess it will just have to be am elimination process.
