Question about 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

I have a 97 chevy tahoe. I changed the spark plugs, wires, distrubutor cap, rotor. About 300 miles later engine light came on. I thought maybe cheap distrubutor cap and rotor was cheap. I went to auto zone and got another one. Engine light came off on free way. Came back on later on that day. I checked compression test was good. Only miss fire on cylinder 6. So I changed plug and wires again. Still engine light is on. You can on tell the miss fire when your at a stop sign or going slow. Also I smell fuel I never smelled before. If it's a bad injector? How do I fix this and where would number 6 be located?

The number 6 cylinder is located (if you are looking at it from the front of the car) it is on the left side third cylinder back from the front. you probally have a bad injector that is just dripping fuel into that cylinder.

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY S10 4.3 ENGINE coil sparks but no spark from distributor. can the cam sensor cause this problem?

If you take coil wire loose from distributor cap and hold close to engine ground, engine cranking, does a spark jump? If it does, make sure rotor turns when you crank it. The pink wire at the coil goes hot with key on, that is primary voltage, use a test light, is it hot? That voltage comes from ecm fuse1--15 amp, check voltage with key on.
If sensor issue, my first thought would be the crank sensor. Just my opinion.

How do I tune up my 5.7 vortec v8 Chevy Tahoe engine

Depending on the year, the only option you have is to change the spark plugs and then consider changing cap and rotor and plug wires. Modern computer controlled cars have very few adjustments.

missing is not always the plugs ,HT leads distributor . Most times it is from misfiring injectors and low fuel pressure.

Change my spark plugs and distrubutor cap and the 85 ranger want start

You may have got the spark plug wires out of sequence.
Reseat the coil wire going to the center of the distributor cap Check the spark plug wires at the distributor against the firing order as follows:
The spark plug firing order is 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6 The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered :
firewall 3 - 6 2 - 5 1 - 4 front
Best wishes,
TF

What part get replaced on a complete tune up on a 2000 chevy tahoe?

I would replace
1. spark plugs. Do not go cheap on the plugs use the proper AC Delco spark plug
2. cap and rotor
3. spark plug wires
4.fuel filter
and then i would have a fuel injection cleaning done . there is not a timing adjustment or air fuel adjustment this is all done by the PCM ( Powertrain Control Module )

No spark at plugs on a 1986 chevy pu with 350 is the coil bad or something else

to test whats wrong you need a test light 12 volt. It's an ice pick like tool with a clear handle and a ware with an alligater clip. hook the clip to ground near the ciol then with the key on the ciols small wires will be hot ( lights the light ) unplug the small wire plug at the coil and one wire will be hot the other cold. the one thats cold connect the test light and reconnect to the coil. crank the engine before cranking with the key on it should be lit cranking it should flash off and on quickly. All of this presoposes that the battery is well charged and cranks the engine good. if it just stays on then you need to verify that the distrubutor is turning, ( cap off look it it with it cranking it should turn if not the timing chain whent out. no flash and the distrbutor turns the crank senser 9 DISTUBUTOR PICKUP OR THE INGTION MODULE failed any of the wires can break too. Most auto parts stores can test the module before you buy a new one. module failure is common well motor no start. the pickup is not as common and if your not a regular mechanic then changing the distrubutor is easier. make sure that you put the new one in the same as the old one or it won't run. turn the engine till the rotor points straight to somewhere (front) pull the old on watching it turn as it comes out so you can turn the new one in at the same place put the cap back on and fire it up. The rebuilt distrubutor will have a new pickup and module. The coil can fail but not like a light switch. if the the ciol has power and the other side flases and theres no spark the coil is bad.

The crank angle sensor maybe bad. It sends a signal to the computer so the spark plugs fire up.
