Hello . So your transponder key is broken ? If the transponder is missing or broken then the car will not start. The transponder is like a fuse in the key that must send a sig to the ecu and back to the ign system to allow vehical to run. Quinn , Arizona

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY S10 4.3 ENGINE coil sparks but no spark from distributor. can the cam sensor cause this problem?

If you take coil wire loose from distributor cap and hold close to engine ground, engine cranking, does a spark jump? If it does, make sure rotor turns when you crank it. The pink wire at the coil goes hot with key on, that is primary voltage, use a test light, is it hot? That voltage comes from ecm fuse1--15 amp, check voltage with key on.
If sensor issue, my first thought would be the crank sensor. Just my opinion.

Random times of no crank

If the security light is flashing, the chip in the key or the sensor in the key lock may be faulty. If the engine computer "sees" the right chip in the key, it allows the engine to start.
If the light is not flashing you would need to check for power at the starter when the engine will not crank. Also try cranking in neutral.

Car starts with a jumper wire to starter but will not start with key

Not sure if I follow your question completely.
If the car is a GM model and has the VATS system the system will keep the engine from cranking and starting.
The lock cylinder reads a chip in the key to allow the engine to crank and start.

What is a transponder chip?

You should get a spare key while you still can make a copy of the one you have now.
The chip is in the black plastic part of the key and sends a signal to the security system on the car to allow it to start.
Some locksmiths and the dealer can make you a new key with the correct chip. A key without the chip will not allow the engine to start.

My 02 Altima cranks over but doent fire. Is there a possibility that the computer chip in the key is causing this problem? I do not have the master key, just a spare. The dealer has the master key. Ive...

if it is causing this you can tell by observing the security lamp whie cranking engine(top of dash left hand side near v.i.n. plate.if you have a solid red light while key is on or cranking engine then this an indication of fault with anti theft key system.if the lamp is out you need to look elsewhere.these cars are notorious for crank and cam sensor failures.good luck and please let me know how it works out.
