Most shops charge about 100 bucks including the part. Best have them do it so they can determine if it just broke on its own or you have another issue that caused it to brake

Is replacing an alternator belt the same as replacing the alternator

Well the alternator is driven by a belt. You should be able to look at the alternator and tell if it has been replaced by how clean it is.

A belt broke on my car and my ac dont work....what do i need or how much would it cost to repair?

im not sure of the year, make or model of this car but if everything else is working like the powersteering and alternator and car doesnt overheat then i would say that the belt may only run the ac compressor. the first thing to check is all pulleys, the belt may have broke due to being worn and old, the belt may have also broke due to a bad pulley or a frozen one. check all pulleys in which the belt runs on. spin each pulley by hand and make sure it spins freely, if all spins free then install a new belt , make sure to check the ac compressor also. good day.

My car was squeaking like a belt.then the battery light came on while drained the battery

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that you have an alternator belt issue. It was squeaking for the belt is loosen. I strongy suggest that you tighthen it for the alternator to charge the battery. If the alternator belt looks worn then replace it for optimum performance.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Loud winding noise from engine when running ( transmission is fine) gets louder while driving on freeway. could it be a belt? fan belt? alternator belt? is this an easy fix(if I were to do it myself) or...

Hello sunshineyes2 and thank you for asking your question here on

I have actually written a general information article that will walk you through the general process of changing the fan belt on your
2004 Kia Spectra. It will also point you to the resources you need for getting the diagrams of how the belt needs to go back on. Belts usually cost less than $20 and take a few minutes to put them on.

Here is a link to that article:

The pulley for the alternator belt broke and snapped the belt as well, now the car will not even start. what needs to be done and what are the estimated costs associated with the repairs

A belt is usually $15, and a pulley around $50.
If this has separate belts (not a serpentine) usually the belt goes around the alternator and off the main flywheel and there isn't and idler pulley - but I dont' know about TL's.
Basically you loop the belts over the pulleys. Something has to move to allow you to adjust the tension. Usually there is bolt on the alternator that is in a slot, so you move the alternator towards the flywheel to put the belt on, and away to tighten it up (you want a little deflection, but if it is too loose it will squeal - which is better than over-tightening).

I was driving down the rode, when all the sudden my charge light come on, started making a humming or buzzing noise and the lights got real dim.

Sounds like the alternator is bad. If you can drive it still you can take it to an autozone or advanced auto and have them test it for free
