A blinken lite means the cat converter is bad. Unplug the computer n clean the pins then replug. Connections on old cars often get dirty. Get a datastream run at a privateshop to target issue.Its better then a code reader. Wiring harness should be inspected for flaws

Right behind the air box on the 2.4L engine. Note that this model car requires that the engine is off when checking the stick (unlike most cars). The procedure is to first get the engine up to operating termperature then put the car in park, engage the emergency brake, then put the car in drive low, drive 2, neutral, reverse then park. I do not see your problem listed as a recall.

it sounds like your gearshift cable is broken..if you can jack up vehicle and support it safely,get someone to move shifter and look on driver's side of transmission and see if linkage is moving on trans..linkage is up near top of trans..i have seen this problem before

with the code, I'd lean to the solenoid, but there is a large nut inside the transmission that loosens on these and when it does, you'll lose reverse.

the shift sensor may be out of alignment on the gearbox!
