SOURCE: pontiac sunfire valve noise
If it's a ticking noise that speeds up with the speed of the engine, it's a worn valve lifter.
You can try tightening it down by taking the valve cover off and tightening the bolt on the rocker arm, but don't tighten it too much, you will end up with other problems.

Check your motor mounts, it sound like your motor is rocking back and forth. You can confirm this by watching the engine while someone shifts it in and out of gear for you.
SOURCE: 97 SL2 dohc loud knocking sound coming from
you have a ROD knock,,,,the oil level can be good and compression can be good, but the bearing on the rod to crank is shot and now has too much play and is causing excessive play and noise, soon the rod will come out the block and seize the engine,,if its knocking that loud then its too late to fix it,,your gonna have to replace the engine really soon,,,sorry but its normal of the dohc engine to do this usually between 90 to 130k miles they let loose but the single cam dont have this issue
sound like low oil pressure.check engine oil level when engine cool.oil level should be at the full mark on oil dip stick.if oil level okay replace oil filter and oil.if engine still knocks check oil pressure.make sure engine not over heating.because engine run too hot will also knock before locking up.
