Doesn't sound good
when was it last serviced
check the engine oil level
the engine light or CEL light or low oil light should be on
best get it to a workshop for closer inspection
if the engine has no problem
closer inspection required
the noise could be clutch gearbox or brakes

SOURCE: 1998 NISSAN ALTIMA FRONT END NOISE / RT SIDE GRINDING NOISE,.... BEARING?

CV joint has gotten debris and moisture inside. The CV boot is bad and not protecting the joint. Now its metal on metal grinding. This happens when turning as there is more pressure on the joint. Please fix this ASAP as it can be dangerous to drive on a bad CV joint. While I have seen people drive with a bad CV joint for over 4k miles, it is NOT recommended!

your cv joint is bad. Instead of fixing the cv joint it is actually easier and cheaper to have or replace the entire axle your self. Because it comes with a cv joint and you get a new axle also.

SOURCE: i have an 03 nissan altima engine makes loud clicking noise

1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)

you call it the serpentine belt, we call it the fanbelt.it,needs tightening, slightly loosen the alternator, then pull away from engine and tighten belt, tight enough when you can move longest part of the belt, between pulleys, 1/2 inch in/out.
if squeel re occurs fit new belt.

The "buzzing noise"; I can tell that I am not alone in having this problem but has someone figured out ... I fit does, that eliminates the brake rotors, tires, wheelbearings, CV's etc. ... BUT with an Altima it is probable the pre-cats. Loud humming noise when driving

03 nissan altima high pitch whine from engine

I assume that you have a 6cyl engine, noise came from both worned secondary timing chain tenssioner shoes, just replace those two and while you have them all apart, also replace main tenssioner and guide, then all noises will go away. Good luck!

Hello i would check your wheel bearings or sometimes called bearing hub .Jack car up prop the car with axle stands now remove your tires and rotors once removed wiggle you bearing hub left to the right your bearing hub should have minimal play one side to the other is obvious the looser play hub will be your noise you have been experiencing.most people call this road noise.

Rattling / grinding sound coming from engine area when vehicle is in gear and car break is applied, but when gear is set into neutral noise stops. Was told the problem was the aircondition compressor....

Just a couple ideas...
Your engine and transmission will shift slightly when in drive, and maybe that movement is allowing it to rub on something. Another issue may be that the noise is actually from the transmission.
Torn motor mounts will allow the drive train to shift or move farther than normal.
