Dakota v6 has new heater core, thermostate, can hear blend door opening, and upper hose and both core hoses are hot but still no heat. dummy temp gauge looks like it might be reaching 160 range instead of...

160 degrees should be hot enough to get some heat.
You could check the engine temp with a scanner to confirm.
I would double check the blend doors, and the temp of the coolant in and out of the heater core. I use an inferred temp gun.

My 2006 Equinox suddenly does not have warm air. No matter where the heat dial is set - the air temp does not change.

I am not a mechanic but I can tell you the problem is with the blend door actuator and the blend door valve. Unfortunately the entire dash has to be removed to get to the heater case and replace the blend door. This seems to be a very common problem with the 2005 & 2006 Equinox. I just got mine out of the shop, luckily my extended warranty covered it. Research this online, there are plenty of posts about the problem.

If the heater core isn't leaking it doesn't likely need changing. It sounds like you could have a problem with the heater control valve - a valve in one of the heater hoses that controls flow through the hose. If you smell coolant and see moisture on your windshield (inside) or have coolant leaking onto the floor - you might need the heater core replaced.

Have a 2001 dakota sport 6 cyl. and have coolant dripping from bottom of water pump.found loose bolt on bottom and tightened it.drove around at first no leak, then heater blowin cold air, then shut off...

Gasket probably will not seal now, and if your going to have to remove water pump to replace it, you might as well put a new pump on as well. The reason for heater cutting in and out, is probably just due to low coolant, and air got into system. When cool, remove rad cap, start engine, and turn heater on while letting it get up to operating temperature, and top up rad as needed, until you see increased flow in rad indicating thermostat has opened and coolant is circulating. Watch for that a couple of times, then put rad cap back on, and top up return bottle to proper level as well. That should get your heat back.
