Question about 2001 Lincoln LS
I am planning to buy a very nice lincoln towncar 2003.
The car is very good shape and looks sharp, but there is a bad smell inside. The car is clean inside and i cant find any source off the bad smell.Could it be coming from ventilationm/aircond system ?
Or isit any problems with the materials inside?
I will be very greatful for any help in this problem.

Same with my wife's 2006 Town Car. Dealer fix was to turn off the AC 2 minutes before you get where you are going to dry things out. That didn't work.
Next fix was to disinfect the plenum and apply some magic chemical. Picking up the car after this treatment it STUNK. Previously while I could smell the A/C when starting my wife could smell it all the time. With the fix in place I also can smell it all the time.
Back to the dealer again today to request change of evaporator or F8ZX-19980-AA Purge Module ( see http://autotechrepair.suite101.com/article.cfm/offensive_a_c_systems).
Also some have success spraying Lysol. From above linked article
"There are any numbers of products that will get rid of the smell, some for the short term and others for the long term. One of the short-term solutions is using Lysol. Lysol is a disinfectant spray that will kill most of what grows inside the evaporator case. All you need to do to apply it is to put the HVAC into the Recirculation mode, turn the A/C off, put the blower on MEDIUM speed and spray up under the dash behind the glove box area. The fan will carry the Lysol through the evaporator and the ductwork. First spray just a bit on an unseen portion of the dash to see if it will discolor it first. If it does then you won't be able to use it."

Turn on the fan and smell if its coming from the vent. Turn on the A/C and smell check it again also. If its not that than its the interior. If the interior is based out of cotton it will have a higher chance of retaining a stench. Get a detailer to steam clean it.
