Tommyscott: you are wanting to know how to fix a drive axle assembly? These parts have become so cheap to buy remanufactured, that it is not economical to rebuild them your self any more. I don't know of any shops that actually rebuild drive axles any more. I may occasionally replace a boot if one has been recently torn, but if the car has been driven for a while to where the CV joint has been exposed to road grit and foreign matter, I replace the whole axle, it's cheaper!

get the vehicle to a cv /drive line accredited specialist shop and let them do the job on a hoist
drive shafts with cv joints can be reconditioned successfully but it is done in a specialist shop only
In your case a new shaft would be the best fix
being a master tech you would also know that when one goes , the other will not be far behind

Ginding noise right front side?

the CV joint of the axle most likely at the hub end of axle.contained inside of a rubber boot full of cant see the actual joint but by graspping the axle and asserting force up/down,left/right you should be able to tell if the joint has "ruptured" or seperated. best fix is ALWAYS a new axle.repairing a boot or joint = $$parts,$$$$labor?
/new axle=$$parts,$labor plus most new after-market axles carry a lifetime warranty and its only a matter of time until the boots dry rot loose grease and go time only cost labor to switch axle.A "slipping" axle will give a loss of propellsion will actually prevent the transfer of driveline power from transmission to wheels.

I have a 1988 Subaru L Series Touring Wagon with a busted CV Joint, i have the new part but not sure how to fix.........Is it a difficult job? Do you know where i could find a free guides or directions on...

If you are replacing the CV joint itself, you have spent too much money for one, and are in for more work than needed. I own a 1993 Subaru Loyale Wagon, front wheel drive (converting to four). I had to replace both sides when I got it, and it is so much easier to replace the drive axles rather than the CV joint. I suggest returning the part, and purchasing the entire drive axle. The drive axle will require the same steps : Remove brake system, knock out pin in drive axle near tranny, and pull the drive axle out. Insert new drive axle, replace pin (if new one is not provide, this is okay.) and re-assemble brake system.
If this is not feasable for you to do, and replacing the CV joint is your only option, then go to the the auto parts store and ask for a CHILTONS manual for your car.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Rear wheel bearing

Well, you picked a beauty to fix. I don't think that either a 2 or 4 wheel drive will make a difference. The biggest problem is that after you remove the axle from the car you need a special bearing removal tool, and a slide hammer to remove the bearing from the axle. Then you need a special bearing installation tool and a universal driver handle to install the new axle shaft bearing. And last, you need a axle pinion oil seal installation tool to install the oil seal. If you are not a skilled mechanic, I would suggest that you find a local reputable mechanic and let him do this repair for you.

Leaking Axle

IThis car im not sure if it is front wheel drive or not. Assume it is then it could get expensive. If it is just rear wheel drive then its just packing bearings with grease, no big deal.

You have to replace the axle. Jack up the car, remove the wheel. Remove the axle nut. Unbolt the ball-joint from the spindle. Pull the axle from the spindle. Pop the axle out of the transmission. Reverse procedure.
