Question about 1991 Geo Tracker

I have just installed a transmission and clutch and now there is a noise at the flywheel which goes away when the cluth is applied.

Throw out bearing.or did you put a used trans in it. could be the input shaft bearing

Cluth is making a loud screeching noise when changing gear and when starting the car up.


Is it squeeling or a sound like metal to metal as if it squeels, then perhaps your alternator is getting bad or your serp belt, if its the other than perhaps your clutch maybe going start with the clutch flywheel hope that helps

Why does my car make noise on neutral but when i hit the gas pedal it goes away?


You need to locate the source of noise first , it seems to noise of drive line only. Which consist of flywheel , clutch system and gear box.
1) In case you are having same problem with clutch engaged or disengaged position ( while throttle is on) , then there is a possible problem with the neutral gear ( if it is not abnormal but just high in magnitude than it was previously than consider replacing the transmission oil) otherwise get the gear box checked with a transmission specialist.
2) In case you are having the noise problem only when clutch is engaged than u may consider to refit the clutch plate and pressure plate , there could be a problem of torquing.

Starter grinding flywheel


If you had a flywheel replaced it is possible that it is not reinstalled properly. Check for engine vibration at idle . Check that the starter is in correctly. IT appears that the starter pinion is not meshing correctly with the ring gear and that is your noise . It goes after starting because the pinion disengages from the ring gear. The problem is a misalignment between the pin ion and the flywheel ring gear ( nothing at all about polished gears ). IT is all in the installation of the flywheel -starter and gear box.

Clutch wont work pedal goes to floor and hear ratcheting sound


cluth plate and pressure plate bad,,,noise is more than likely loose clutch material scraping some part,,,how long since new parts installed?? not real expensieve,,but moderate amount of money., if you do it yourself. some have inspection plate you can see a little around flywheel housing,,to possibley survey damage. wipe finger in there and see how much material you get,,a lot,,,replace clutch and pressure plate

it sounds like it is either your clutch or the throw out bearing. either way you more than likely need to have to install a complete clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing, and have your flywheel resurfaced.

Replace clutch in a 2003 hyundai Elantra


  • The manual transmission in your Hyundai Elantra uses a clutch to engage and disengage the power from the engine to the transmission.
  • The clutch disc is sandwiched between the engine flywheel and the transmission pressure plate.
  • When you switch gears and let off the clutch pedal, there is a short period during which the clutch is slipping to transmit the power in a controlled way. This causes wear on the clutch; over time it will require replacement.
The procedure to replace the clutch is as follows:--- 1) Jack up the Hyundai Elantra and place on jack stands. 2)Drain the transmission gear oil into a catch pan. To drain the gear oil, loosen the drain bolt with a ratchet. 3)Disconnect both drive axles (half shafts) from the transmission. Use a ratchet to remove the two bolts that hold the steering knuckle to the strut. Once those are out, you can easily pull the axles out of the transmission. The steering knuckle is the component that the wheel and strut attach to. 4)You can locate the two bolts to remove by following the strut down from where it's bolted into the engine bay Removing these two bolts allows you to pull the steering knuckle outward so you can pull the drive axle out of the transmission. 5)Remove the exhaust downpipe from the rest of the exhaust. It will be held on with two bolts at both ends and can be removed with a ratchet. Removing this piece is necessary to gain access to the transmission. 6)Disconnect the shifter cables connected to the transmission. Use a ratchet to remove each shifter cable and its housing.Remove the bolts holding the transmission to the engine block (there will be about seven or eight bolts). Place a transmission lift underneath the transmission to hold it and lower it down. If you don't have a transmission lift, you can use a transmission attachment for your jack.Shift the transmission back and forth until it drops onto the jack. Pull the transmission straight back, ensuring that no pressure is put on the input shaft, then lower the transmission to the ground. 7)Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc from the flywheel with a ratchet tool. Then remove the flywheel with a ratchet tool and replace it with a new flywheel. Alternatively, have your flywheel professionally machined at a machine shop then replace it in your car. Torque the flywheel down to the manufacturer's specifications. 8)Place the clutch disc on the clutch disc alignment tool and insert the tool into the flywheel input shaft hole. Connect the new pressure plate to the flywheel and torque the bolts. Once the pressure plate is torqued down, remove the clutch alignment tool. 9)Grease the new throw-out bearing and place it on the input shaft of the transmission. Once the transmission is installed, it will push against the pressure plate. 10) Reconnect all the parts which you removed while replacing the clutch. Relaced transmission and now have a rattle sound comind from torque coverter area,noise gets louder when gas pedal is applied and noise goes away during shifting of transmission btu comes right back after...


your torque converter is rattling that is the clutch on the stator inside is worn out... You can stall test your torque converter ...Do this but follow correctly. put on parking brake..on the asphalt,,,, block all four wheels...push the gas to the floor for just 2 seconds...down one, two lift off gas pedal quickly..
when your doing this WATCH your RPMs they should reach to around 2200-2400 between the 2-4 rpm if not the Torque Converter is toast!!!! If your car passes the STAll test then when you tranny was put back on one of the fly wheel covers are rubbing....!!!.

Cluth cable ajustment if equiped.Some cars have a cluth cylender if your model has the cylender no ajustment is available.If you had your cluth changed at a garage you might consider takeing it back in for ajustments.If you changed the clutch check cluth cable for ajustment if your car is equiped with cable if not i would perhaps remove the transmission and inspect clutch for loose clutch plate or release bearing might not be seated properly hope this helped you.

sounds like you have a clutch release bearing issue, when u apply the clutch you put a load on the release bearing and stop the noise temporarily..........remember to rate your experience

Scraping noise when off gas and clutch is out


either the throw out bearing has failed ot the clutch plate hub has failed
possibly from the clutch plate being installed incorrectly and the hub springs are hitting on the flywheel bolts
