Question about 1991 Volvo 240

Open Question

Need to find out what or if it actually is a sensor that is positioned right behind the alternator on my 1992 volvo 240 the wire has pulled out need to know if it is important because i have to drive it tommorow

SOURCE: 1993 volvo 850.gear position sensor remove conector from housing

Remove the housing from the transmission so it is loose, remove the tie straps and the rubber boot, break off the little tabs under the boot. Get a very thin screwdriver and insert into the other end of the housing, you will see a slot, and depress the tab and pull up on the connector. This is a very tricky little procedure, and difficult to explain, but this link should help..

This sound like the overdrive relay. try to reset the relay. It looks like this one. I am in no way affiliated with the site my brother had the same problem with his Volvo

Remove the right kick pannel(glove box side) of the center console. The relay is attached to the firewall side of console metal sopport frame, about even with the blower switch.

the engine temp sensor on a 1992 240 (b230f engine) is located on the passenger side of the engine, right next to the oil filter and right above the alternator. good luck :)

How do i take the radio out of a 1992 volvo 240 model


if its the original,then you need 4x 2.1/2x1/4 x 1/16 flat "keys"which you push into the 4 slots to release the clips.then pull the unit out,be careful as the wiring loom is very short.

You're going to need to have 2 people for this. One of you is going to need to rapidly pull up on the outside door handle(kind of in a snapping fashion) and the other will need to push from the inside. Eventually this door will come open. Once this happens, replace the latch assembly. Any local salvage yard may have these.

How do i replace air flow meter on 1992 volvo 240 wagon. It stalls at low speed, intermittently.


It is a can shaped air flow sensro, in the plastic intake hose. To replace it all you have to do is pull the electrical connector, unscrew the clamps on the line on both sides, and switch out the sensor. Make sure you have the correct sensor, there were 3 different types used.

Volvo crankshaft sensors go bad. On the 4 cylinder with a Rex ignition system, reach behind the engine and inspect the wire that runs from the firewall to the transmission. If this has any cuts or open spots, it should be replaced. This is common on a Volvo. (I think it is a good design. You can get to it easily.) It runs about $60. It is easy to change. Part number is 271949.

check the ground to the alternator...clean up any rust & the alternator belt may need to be tightened... also make sure to use only bosch or volvo parts!!!

yes you fill it up dont turn car on but turn the stering wheel all the way to the right and then the left do this about three times if you dont you could ruin a new steering pump and make it a loud one

If you can get it running again, get it to an electrical shop where they can test the charging system. If the alternator is still bad, it will continue draining the battery. If it won't run, pull the alternator and take it to a shop that can test it.
