The canister is on top of the engine, you should see vacuum hoses connected to it. For the relay, if you are referring to the EFI relay, it should be under the dashboard.

Are you having error code 446? This can also be caused by a number of things. You may want to use a scanner to get out all of the errors to ensure your are diagnosing the problem accurately. The 446 error can be caused by a number of things, such as fuel tank pressure reading or vent valve error. You may also want to check the solenoid beside the canister.

You may also want to disconnect the battery for 2mins then step on the brakes and see if you can clear the error from the ECU and see if it comes back on. If it comes back, try the suggestions mentioned above.

Check engine light keeps coming on.

The canister is $363.00 on Rock Auto.Com

I would remove it & test each component

Then replace it as a whole, or get just the
individual parts from a salvage yard

But you'll have to know what your doing,
& need a diagram to see how it works

At that price-- you install yourself-- regardless

P1443 code How do I fix this code problem on my 97 Ford ranger?

P1443 is the Evaporative Emission Control System Control Valve. Any time you get this code always check your gas cap. If it is not installed all the way, or leaks, it can cause the evap emission code to come up. If the cap is okay...

The problem is probably caused by the Canister Purge Assembly. This assembly connects the intake manifold to the charcoal canister and the assembly is made up of hoses, a valve and a sensor. On the 1997 Ranger, it is located near the front of the engine compartment on the driver's side (the canister is right behind the driver's side headlight). Apparently, if there are any cracks in the hoses, or if the valve or the sensor wears out, this will cause the check engine light to come on, and return the P1443 code.

Part numbers for the canister purge solenoid/flow sensor assemblies:

    F57Z-9C987-AB Canister Purge Solenoid/Flow Sensor
    Assembly - 2.3L F57Z-9C987-CA Canister Purge Solenoid/Flow Sensor
    Assembly - 3.0L F57Z-9C87-BA Canister Purge Solenoid/Flow Sensor
    Assembly - 4.0L

Part cost = $65 to $100 depending on engine size - good luck :O)

What is the EVAP system and the FTP sensor . Service light is on and that was the diagnostic. EVAP canister or vent solenoid.

The EVAP cannister is a charcoal cannister located under your hood, the solenoid operates the EVAP system, the cannister is a fixed part with no electronics or moving parts, I would try the solenoid, as it has both moving parts and it electric. Reset check engine light after repair. Let em know if this helps.

Headlights wont come on, but parking lights work...i dont get it

Was sent in by another poster, just posting his results which fixed mine. Problem was relay $50.00 at GM only.

Check the relay module. 45 or 46. on the engine relay block. you can swap the two they are the same part number, then you will know. Dont start the engine, just check the lights. If it works replace the relay module. You may have to order the part from the parts store. Or go to the dealer to get it.

Its in the engine compartment of the vehicle on the passenger side of the vehicle by the charcoal canister (behind the passenger side headlight, behind the core support, in a bank of relays.)
