Take idle air control valve off & give it & port it came out of a good cleaning with throttle body spray cleaner, and see if that cures it. If it does, but starts to do it again later, replace it.

In most cars, there is a valve that controls the idle speed. There is a screw on it that allows u to set the idle speed a little fast or slow. So, start the car, open the (bonnet, hood, get acces to the engine), locate the idle speed valve, find the screw on it and turn it. The RPM will either go down or come up. So turn in the direction when they go up. Now start the AC and c if the problem is still there. Sholud go away now.

I have been having this problem too. Does the car run correctly with the a c on or is there a loss of performance? If there is a loss of performance you could have a restriction in the a/c system. You need to get it checked out quickly cause it can potentially cost lost of money if it breaks under the pressure.

My 1999 ford expedition idles rough when I turn on the air conditioner

the rpms drop because you are adding more of a load to it. it should level out after a few seconds.

My 1990 Toyota corolla just shuts down when my air condition is on

IDLE SPEED COULD BE TOO LOW.IDLE SPEED SHOULD BE 800 RPM. IF IDLE SPEED TOO LOW AND ENGINE NOT WELL TUNE UP AIR CONDITIONER WILL PUT LOAD ON ENGINE CAUSE ENGINE OVER HEAT AND SHUT OFF.

My 1989 cadillac idiles low but once I turn the wheel it cuts off

remove and clean the IAC idle air control it is probably sticking and giving a low idle. or replace it if need be. it should idle at about 7-800 rpms, i think thats why it quits when you turn the wheel. it is putting more stress on the pump and the engine. check idle. Good-day !

I have a 1994 toyota truck with a 22re engine, and the problem is a fluctuating idle with the a/c on or off.

I would suggest idling your high idle speed up a quarter turn while air conditioner is on full .

It sounds like everything is working properly. The temperature will go up when idling. The wter isn't being pumped through the system as fast. When idling, the engine runs at around 750 rpm's. When driving, even at low speeds, the engine speed is at least double that. Make sure your antifreeze is set for at least 20° below zero.

My 2002 Ford Taurus will shutter and die when running the air conditioner and sitting idle at a stop sign or stop light. When I turn on the air conditioner the rpms will fluctuate up high above 2 and then...

the idle air control valve is responsible for engine idle.
this is a common failure on ford's. but I don't think yours is bad because it does idle high befor it dies.
you stated you had codes p0171 and p0174 these are lean codes for bank one and two, you said you found a vacuum leak and repaired it, the vacuum leak was mostly likely the cause of the lean codes, however the pcm has calibrated the fueling stategy for this lean mixture, what you need to do is erase the KAM "keep alive memory" this is done by unhooking the negative battery cable for 60 seconds, this is the only way to erase the KAM the $6000.00 machine I use wont even do it.

once the KAM is clean the computer will go into a relearn state and all operating values will be adjusted for the vehicles current condition, during this relearn session the vehicle may have some driveability issues (low or high idle, stalling, poor fuel economy) the relearn should complete within 10 minutes of idling and then 10 minutes of driving.

good luck and keep me updated
