Go to your fuse box and pull out the fuse to the ECM, that will release the keys from the ignition. You may still have the problem so you may have to reset the whole system by locking the car completely and then putting the ECM fuse back in. Once the fuse is back in, unlock it and that should bring the system back to it's base. If there is a problem with the engine not starting you may have to do the ignition key relearn also and that's about a 30 min program.
30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help.

the lamps you need to watch the lamps. they don't lie.
so now it dont start (but cranks)
the operators guide tells you what the lights mean, lost that.?
2 lamps are security or IMMOBILIZers have a lamp
  • off means OK
  • on means its bad ( locked out, )
  • flashing means that system is sick.
generally. got both lamps? look carefully.

IMMO kills engine, if car is tired to start. with wrong key. (and or fob)
security is theft alarm. and some cut spark others cut fuel other cut
some even cut cranking,
does yours crank?
or cranks ok but wont start.
no matter the lamps are FIRST> never last. never replace parts until you know what the lamps mean.

see this?

Passlock: System must detect proper R-code within ignition lock (or ignition switch) in order to start engine. Does NOT have chip in key.

THEFT SYSTEM

Try pulling the fuse. If that doesn't work, you may have to dis-mantel the dash, until you find the box and disconnect it (NOTE: they are NOT easy to get to!). Some will start then but some have to be 'wired around' ie- hook a wire from one side to the other side of the plug, to fool it into believing it has contact (at the door-switch).
BUT- contact a dealer, before you start tearing the dash apart, they may have an easier fix!

How do I reset the security system? The system will not allow the car to start. I have tried turning the key in the passenger door, and it still not start.

I dont know what turning the key in the passenger door is supposed to do? turn ignition key on and let it set for 10 minutes, the anti theft light should go out, and the car start. if not you will need a shop to check it out. the number one issue is the ignition cylinder cant read the key because the wires are broken. it may need a new lock cylinder.

Theft system prevents the car from starting

Removing the fuse will only erase the memory from the computer, and it will have to relearn what it should know. It will not reset the theft system. Here's how to reset the theft system. Roll the window down,(if power windows, turn the key off again)reach through the window and try to start the car. When it don't start just leave the key on for around 20 minuets or so. If you dont leave it on long enough you will have to go through this waiting period again, but 20 mins. should do the trick. Then turn the key off for about 30 seconds, then start the car. PLEASE Dont do anything electrical, like, push the brakes, open the door, mess with the radio. Just reach through the window to turn the key.

2003 chevy malibu won't start and seems to be with the fuel pump

Try this I got it from the emission wiz
Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10 mins remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this a total of 3 times. If that dont work try a different key do the same thing. This relearns your key to the ignition it started with Gm cars and trucks from 1999 to to 2006. It is a big problem but there is no recall that I know of. If that dont work a dealer needs to probably replace and reprogram your ignition switch and keys

Car starts then stalls due to the anti theft system need info on reset

you should be able to use the key to unlock the driver door or the back hatch and that should disable the anti theft.
