Question about 2009 Honda Pilot

1 Answer

I have a 2009 Honda Pilot. It has 14775K miles on it. We have been using the oil indicator light to dictate when to change the oil. We have only replaced it once. We used Mobile Synthetic 5W-20. NO indicator has ever came on stating oil is low. My husband is in a panic, because when he checks the oil on the dipstick, it shows that it is burning oil. He keeps adding oil to it, because he says it should stay full. We have logged its consumption and it doesn't meet honda's oil consumption guidelines at this time(1,000 or more miles per qt. of oil to be acceptable consumption figure withing the new car limited warranty), so it is considered normal. It is using roughly 1/2 of pint every 2000miles and at the end of the first oil change,8,600miles, it was a quart low. Is this normal. My thought is with the old cars we changed the oil every 3K miles and never got to see this usage. Now we drive 9K miles or more and can see possible normal usage of oil. What do you think? Here is what we logged with the current oil change: 3-14--8619--1 quart low--changed it... 3-29--9043--1/16 below top of mark 4-13--10298--1/8 below top of mark 5-11--12044 1/8 below top of mark Then he added oil. It is still full from adding it and only at 40% usage. We are going to go ahead and change it Sat. and start over monitoring it. Please help!

We are in the process of that. I used synthetic this last time and going to change it at 5K. And see if it burns any. Then the next time I think I am swapping back to reg oil. Why pay for synthetic if you get no benefit out of it?

I say change your oil every 3000 to 3500 miles no matter what any little monitoring system says!!!!!!
oil is the lifeblood of the car and is the key to a great, long lasting vehicle.

Mhy wife jus drove 200 miles and the the maintance light came on We're 300 miles away from my next oil change in my 2007 honda pilot. Could she get home without a problem?

Sure she can drive it. That light is only a reminder for you to service the vehicle, not a warning. Red lights are warning lights that need immediate attention. Yellow lights are reminders.

VTM 4 is a traction control system designed for better traction and fuel efficiency. I'd get it back to the dealer ASAP. There seems to be a coil malfunction in the rear axle. I'd make them fully check out the rear axle in addition to checking out the coil sensors themselves. Best of luck to you!

Oil change

Don't worry. The car will not shut off on you. I work at a oil change store for a long time.and
I will try the best I can to explain on how to do it.

There is a button that you press that changes the Miles number on your car. Like for an example, press the button to change from ODO to TRIP A to TRIP B to ODO.
OK, next to that button there should be a reset button.

Turn the key to the ON position, But don't start the car.
Now. hold the reset button down for ten seconds until the display starts flashing.
Ok, when it is flashing, hold down the reset button again for ten seconds until it says " OIL LIFE 100%"
