CHECK FUEL PRESSURE JUST B/C U HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON DOESN'T MEAN IT IS SENDING ENOUGH FUEL PRESSURE TO THE FILTER. ALSO CHECK FILTER COULD BE CLOGGED.

My 1998 ford explorer wont start its getting fuel and spark it seems to turn over fast when it try to start it

the timing may now be out as engine moved after the pulley had broke , have the timing checked, if it's turning over very fast the timing belt may have broken so the starter isn't turning anything !

When starting it sounds like it is puttering and then stalls out. If I try to start it again, it wont start. Almost like it is flooded. I have a 1998 ford explorer with a little over 117,000 miles on...

I've got the same (1998 exploder). Someone went through the neighborhood trying to syphon gas. My truck started then sputtered out and now wont start. Gas is showing half tank plus I added 2 gallons Spark is good and gas pressure is reading 40psi(normal). Everyone else's including my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica started. I need help. Did you find something out that may help?

Ran out of gas but I have put half of tank in now and my 98 ford explored 4.0 6 cylinder won't start does anybody have any suggestions? Plz help...

The fuel pump may have gotten hot and stuck. Try hitting the gas tank with a rubber hammer or a wooden bat with the key on. DON'T USE METAL ON METAL. You should hear it hum for 2-3 seconds if it's working. (have someone turn the key to the on position while you are near the tank) If you can hear the pump humming, and it still won't start you will need to change the fuel filter.

We think we have a bad fuel pump,is there a way to tell and where is it?

the fuel pump is in the gas tank. Try hitting the gas tank a hard knock with a piece of wood or mallet while someone turns the starter over. If it starts when you do this the fuel pump is defective and has to be replaced.

Only make right turns! Only kidding! Have you hit a bump lately? Ford uses an Inertia switch to cut off fuel flow when triggered.Have that checked and reset.

My 1998 Ford Explorer won't start

Is the engine light on, if so any codes read. I've had this happen to a couple of customers. And it was water in the gas tank. If your confident that you have good spark then I would suggest to focus on the fuel system and run diagnostics. Check fuel PSI. on the fuel rail, should be over 35PSI if not if may be a defective pressure reg. or other defect. Good luck.

My 1998 ford explore stop running!

Try rapping your started with a hammer a couple of times. It sounds to me you are having starter problems, not you fuel pump. If this works it may be only tempory and your starter may "freeze up" again. If so, you are probably in need of a new starter.
