Vehicle sometimes goes into a very high idle, 2500rpm's. Sometimes if I turn the ignition off and restart the car the idle returns to normal, but not always!

Sounds like IAC valve or idle air control valve, usually not very much, maybe $20 - $25, and are usually fairly easy to get to on top of engine on intake manifold. Good luck.

Idle races whenever I turn on ac full of Freon on

The question is how high the idle gets... it is sometimes normal for a vehicle to idle up to overcome the extra load of the A/C compressor..If its more than 400 - 500 rpm's higher. than normal.... you might want to consult a qualified pro.

Idel to high starting, warm to low sometimes dies

What is to high? 2000RPM, 2500RPM? Also cold idle and start up idle and many other factors vary with make, model and type of engine, smaller engines in most cases need a high start up idle.

Uncontrolled increase of rpms during start

It could be a number of things but I would start by using a diagnostic device in order to determine exactly what the vehicles ECU has to report. Based on your description I would look at the throttle position sensor. Irregular revving of the engine could be pin pointed to the idle control valve, but only if the revving is relatively small. If it seems like someone has their foot on the accelerator, and has it planted firmly to the floor, then I would definitely be looking at the idle throttle position sensor. Some vehicles also use a fly by wire system where the accelerator cable goes to a throttle position sensor that isn't even near the engine. It can be located under the battery tray sometimes and can be quite easy to get to. These types of sensors are relatively cheap to replace but are quite common in their failure rate. All being said, I would definitely recommend you use a diagnostic device first. It will not only save you time, it will also narrow down the fault more precisely.

89 dodge shadow. hard start. normal idle cold, fast idle warm. sometimes it wont start until i hear fuel pump activate.

Hello,
The car may be hard to start because it may need a normal tune-up. If the spark plugs are pretty used, they will slowly stop burning as much fuel because the spark slowly gets lesser and lesser. On a cold day the fuel is harder to ignite with a small amount of spark.
Normal idle when its cold means that your cars idle is probably too high. If you lower the idle, the choke on a cold day will keep the idle a little higher until the motor warms and then it will kick back off. If the idle is too high, it will run very rich, smothering itself with fuel, and causing the idle to stay low. When the car warms, its creating better spark when its warm, and with the idle being too high its running at a fast idle.
The car wont start sometimes can be the cause of a few things. If the ground is bad on the fuel pump, it wont make a good connection sometimes for when you turn the key on, the fuel pump dont pump the fuel to the engine. Another one can be that your accessory switch can be loose going to the fuel pump. I think its your ground though. Good luck! Hope this helps.
Have a nice day. -Steve
