Question about 1989 GMC K1500

Will not grab in third gear

The transmission will shift from first to second but will not grab in third gear. the transmiaaion was replaced with i known good one and the problem is still present. what will cause this?

Did you check the torque converter lock up swicht, go there.

Why does used replacement A/T start in third gear?

code p 1753 refers to AT-lock up clutch not engaging/disengaging===causes --wiring--lock up control solenoid A---TCM ( transmission control module
I would start at the wiring harness and connections to ensure that all the pins are clean and straight
then I would get a known good TCM and change it out to see if the fix was effective
because you can get gears, I would at this stage disregard the clutch lock up control solenoid (torque converter clutch solenoid)

maybe for an exacting diagnosis of the problem, a discussion and inspection by an accredited auto transmission specialist shop the deals with your make of vehicle would save money in the long run

96 3.3 won't shift into 3rd

Standard transmission? Could be one of two possibilities. 1) third gear synchro is worn out. If so you might be able to get it into gear by matching the engine speed to the the proper speed for that gear. 2) possibly there is a worn bushing in the shift linkage. The first one is a lot more expensive, you should probably get the whole transmission rebuilt if 1 is diagnosed. I would find a good transmission guy. I wouldn't think the third gear synchro would go first, more likely second but if someone rested their hand on the shifter while the transmission was in third a lot it would wear it out. Good luck.

2003 Chryser Town and country - First to send gear bump, bump grab.

Then you have an internal transmission failure from poor workmanship on the rebuild.

Gear shift stuck

Hi Ray, The advise above is good and should be checked out. If that does not solve the problem, before looking for a replacement transmission check and make sure the clutch is fully disengaging. If the clutch is mal adjusted that can also cause a problem with shifting gears. If the gears are stuck and wont shift at all the problem is most likely with the selector rods and/or forks. In that case you'll need major transmission work carried out. Regards John

My transmission slips going through second gear if i get my foot in it just a little bit, and it doesnt always go into reverse. if i shift into reverse and it doesnt shift, i have to shift to neutral then...

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

2001 Yukon XL SLT 4 speed Auto Transmission shift problem!


I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.
