Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

2003 VW 1.8T Jetta Fan

I'm having a similiar, if not the same problem. My fan continue's to stay on after I shut my car off, causing my battery to drain. I found a temporary solution by pulling the fuse to shut the fan off, but it's a pain in the *** constantly popping the hood, and pulling the fuse. I'm thinking it might be a bad relay, but can't locate them. If anyone has a thought, please let me know.

Thank you,

My 2003 vw jetta keeps overheatng after being stuck?

sounds like you got stuck pretty good,.....could have knocked a wire off the cooling fan, or punctured something to make a leak of the coolant,...check coolant level, let it run and see if fan comes on as the temp is increasing,.....good luck, cracklin joe

Cooling fan on 1.8 turbo VW Jetta 20001 did not shut off all night after car was turned off

Locate your rad fan relay, and next time it does it, give it a quick rap with handle of screwdriver or similar weapon. If it stops, replace relay.

2004 Jetta GLS. Main cooling fan remains on after car turned off.

"Already had replaced: both cooling fans, fan control module, coolant temp sensor, fan switch, 4 terminal connectors. No trouble codes reported in VW electronic diagnostic test. 2 different VW dealers and and my mechanic threw in the towel. Any suggestions greatly appreciated."

This is a common problem with the VW..and no one has an answer WHY. (including VW mechanics)

THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE and should be implemented

Radiator fan stayed on and drained the battery, why?

I would venture to guess that, based on past experience, that the problem is more likely to be the thermo-switch in the radiator. Find what looks like a large plug in the lower part of the radiator it will have two electrical jacks. If you test this with a meter and there is continuity when cold, there lies the problem. If not then i would suspect a fused relay (pricier to buy). You would find it located just above the fuses... Hope this helps...;-)

2005 vw jetta radiator cooling fan wont shut off

Check for a switch at lower part of rad. Should see a wire harness & plug on a sensor at bottom of rad. This sensor/switch also operates fan on/off according to coolant temperature. You may need to disconnect battery to get at it safely.

2002 VW fan stays on too long?

How does the temperature gauge read on your dash.. Is your car temp at 190 degrees while driving.. If its higher than 190 your overheating and that would cause the fan to cool her down.. good Luck
