The rocker arms on my 99 durango are non adjustable. The lifters are hydraulic units with a hydraulic camshaft.

How do I fix the tapping sound from the engine when i accelerate after it has reached running temperature

Adjust the valve tappets (yes, they 'tap') AKA Rockers or find out why the hydraulic self adjusting tappets don't work?

They transfer the downward motion of the cams on the camshaft to depress the valves. There is a thin clearance of about 8 thousandths of an inch with the engine cold. As the engine heats the clearance reduces. Over tightening causes the valve edges to burn, too much clearance causes tapping.

Manual tappets get quieter usually as the engine heats. Hydraulic tappets gets worse as the engine heats as the oil thins.

I got a tapping 85 vfr1000r.what are my possibilitys?lots of power,just started tapping.

Hi if the tapping is in top it could be valve adjustment. Otherwise it is the cam chain this is adjusted automatically so if its noisy you will need 2 chains and 2 tensioners along wit the guid rails. This will be expensive unfortunatly. So check the valves first. Fingers crossed they are causing it. Regards Jim...

Send the valve settings for a toyota 3L engine

Valve setting? Most engine valves have an automatic adjuster to self adjust the setting. You didn't say you had it apart. So, I'm thinking you have a dirty condition that would make the adjuster or valve tap. If so good additives just for both those conditions can restore the adjusting by cleaning and freeing the ailing parts. Try the link below for more info and needed product. Audi a4 1998 tapping noise only when idles under valve cover

Sounds like a bad valve lifter or a valve out of adjustment. It's probably a bad hydraulic valve lifter. In idle, when the oil pressure is lowest, it is not filling with oil. When the motor revs up, oil pressure rises and fills the faulty lifter.
If you do have mechanical lifters, the valve is probably out of adjustment. If you do car work, pull the valve cover and see if it's adjustable. Of course, you'll need the specs from VW/Audi.
Otherwise, it's probably a shop job.
Sorry.

Possible loud valve tap with engine under load only. adjusted valves still tapping

The tapping noise will most probably detonation in the engine . It occurs under load or acceleration and happens when the air /fuel ratio is incorrect allowing the mixture to combust with out spark. The noise is the piston hitting the cylinder hard on the compression stroke. Possible damage is broken rings and melted pistons.. Run fault codes and fix failed sensors or adjust the timing for the fuel octane rating you are using. Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses.

Do valves hit pistons?

No they don't.All your valves have a clearance between the piston and the valve. All these distances are all different for every car.Sometimes valves will tap. This tapping sound could be a lifter that's stuck or even valve lashes that have to be adjusted depending on how the tapping presents itself and the running characteristics.

Ford valves are not adjustable, something is wrong. There are oversized pushrods that can be installed, but something is wrong to have valve noise, unless they backed off, somehow.
