Question about 2001 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

Rebuilt top half of engine and rebuilt transmission. Car revs to about 3000 RPMS when accelerating. The car will then slip into gear and run smooth. Transmission guys claim it is a problem with the motor. The car never reved high after the engine repairs until the transmission was rebuilt. Is the problem in the engine or transmission?

the motor runs ok? the engine revs up like it is in neutral and then goes into gear? sounds definitely like a tranny problem

Is my rebuilt transmission already slipping?

If you had the transmission built at a reputable shop, take it back to them and point out the issue. Most shops will warranty a rebuild for up to a year and/or 15,000 miles. It's possible they didn't run the car through a 'relearn' cycle so that the transmission can sort out shift points and speeds based on engine rpm, load, vehicle speed, etc. Ask about that, too, when you bring it back.

You can get the transmission rebuilt. Look for a local transmission repair shop. It's much cheaper that way.

check transmission fluid levelif you see metal shaving in oil pan time for rebuilt if you see more than a table spoon full of shavings but i would change transmission fluid and filter.if engine running higher rpm on acceleration transmission is slipping.

2005 Elantra transmission works at first, but after 2 blocks won't move at all - reverse or drive, any gear - engine revs like car is in neutral.

Sorry, but you need a new transmission. Or have the one you have rebuilt. After the transmission heats up it sounds like the clutches in the tranny are slipping. A common symtom of a blown transmission is a burnt smell to the transmission fluid.

I think having owned a transmission repair shop in the
past, that your going to need to remove the transaxle
and have it rebuilt for about $1,500.00 or more
No other fix

IF TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR IS PINK FULL OF BUBBLES EITHER YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSES IT TO CHURN THE FLUID. OR YOU HAVE AIR GETTING IN THE SYSTEM BUT IT SOUND LIKE TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID CIRCUIT OPEN NOT ALLOWING TRANSMISSION GO INTO OVER DRIVE.IF YOU SEE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BEST TO CODE SCAN VECHICLE TO SEE WHAT TROUBLE CODE YOU GETTING.BY TRANSMISSION BEING PCM CONTROLLED BEST TO SCAN BECAUSE TRANSMISSION HAS MANY SHIFT SOLENOIDS.TAKE CAR TO TRANSMISSION SHOP LET THEM CODE SCAN AND CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR.NORMAL FLUID COLOR WOULD BE RED COLOR.

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.
