Ckenby: I hate to be a party crasher, but being a Nissan Master Tech, I would have to differ "juncro" on the answer.
If the engine is turning when the belt breaks, your upper end will be scrap metal if it is turning more than an idle.
Unfortunately, all of Nissan's engines with timing belts that I know of are interference fit engines. There are pros and cons to those designs.

Set timing on a 2002 ford explorer with a 4.0 liter v6, not getting compression now, what could it be?

Michale
Did chain break? if so could b u have bent the valves in the head, what happens is the piston hits them because the timing is altered,
that is the only two things that would cause that u will need to remove head to check out and replace bent valvers ...or get second hand replacement head

TCar stopped dead .....timing belt broke on 2002dodge

Sorry for this bad news but if the timing belt broke or jumped then you will need to pull heads due to bent valves.
When the timing belt breaks it leaves valves open or throws the timing off which causes the pistons to come up and hit and bend valves,
the only way to know how much valve damage and to repair is to remove the cylinder head or heads and see.

What happens if a 02 Volvo s80 v6 turbo breaks timing belt??

You have no valve clearance, it definetly hit a exhaust valve , you will need a valve job and find the reason your belt broke to begin with. It is impossible that a valve did not get hit

Bent engine valves

Yes it can happen. If a chunk of carbon breaks off and gets stuck between the valve and the valve seat thats exactly what happens.

I had the same thing happen, No, I was told this is not one of the engines that allows the piston to contact the valves. I replaced the timing belt 2 years ago and had no valve problems.

Timing belt sliped

Normally YES, I would have a new belt fitted and try it just in case. I have had several 'interference' motors break a belt and not damage any valves. Its worth taking a chance before running the expense of pulling the heads off for inspection.
