My cam belt snapped on my 1.6 focus can you tell me how i know when my pistons are tdc

take the no1 spark plug out and use a long thin screwdriver ,or look on the bell housing and their are marks in a hole with the wide mark/tooth is TDC the cams have a flat on the back of the cam that has to level with the head face use a length of flat steel ,i use a old handleless file .Then i remove the lower metal plate on the back of the sump/bellhousing and jam a big screwdriver into the ringear and then with help tighten front pulley to 120 lbs or it will slip and crunch the valves again ,i do this with the cam caps undone so if it slips i dont crunch the valves ,then tighten cam caps and refit the belt .

Does my ford focus titanium have a timing belt or

This unit will be running a timing chain. Now,The 1.6 "diesel" engine has both a belt and chain. In the diesel edition, the belt runs from the crank shaft to the cam and the other cam is ran by the chain.

Diagram for timming belt on 2002 ford focus 2.0ltr

there isnt marks!the cam pulleys have do nothing with timing!remove the valve cover and see in the other end of the camshafts and find two eccentric cuts!turn the crankshaft to the top dead point on the cylinder 1 the two cuts must be in the same line on the upper or lower need aspecial tool to lock the camshafts and another to lock the crankshaft!this is the timing procedure!now you can change anything you want!note!the cam pulleys are conejointed to the camshafts!no marks no pins no safe pins etc.isnt difficult but complicated simple!

Timing belt slipped on 2003 1.6 focus need the timing marks

there are no timing marks as such on the focus mate you have to lock the cams with a setting bar (to do this you need to remove the rocker cover and lock the cams with a locking bar)
the crank is locked up by removing a plug behind the oil pump on the back of the engine (the crank needs to be at top dead center on number 1 cylinder and this can be done by removing number 1 spark plug and using a long piece of welding wire or screwdriver, place in to the cylinder and turn over until the piston is at the top)
with the cams locked and the crank locked your engine will be timed up
please let me know if this has been of any help
big mike :)

We change the cambelt and something very wrong happened, after putting everything together and starting the car.. it sound really wierd and the car is shaking. Probably the geerwheels are in wrong...

put number one cyl to tdc take out plug put long screwdriver down to check this if you are not sure /check marks on cam pulleys are correct at this point you need to use locking tool to hold pulleys still .if used before you would not have had a problem re fit belt tension turn over 2 times re check marks re check belt tension should be ok now unless valve has got bent moral always lock the camshafs on twin cam engines

Focus timing belt replacement.

This is a very very easy timing belt setup. first off you have to remove the valve cover. Then you have to remove the serp belt. Then remove anything thats in your way of the front cover. after you remove the crank pulley re-install the crank bolt. DO NOT LOSEN THE BOLT FOR THE TENSIONER!!!! now spin the crankshaft until the sproket aligns with the timing mark. now at this point the two camshafts should be aligned. now there is a special tool from ford that holds the cam shafts in place. all it is is a 1/4" peice of metal that goes on the left side of the cam shafts to hold them into place. if you mark the cams you wont need the tool. or if you can find something to fit in the left side of the cams that will work too. anyways after that its just the same steps in reverse. very easy to do.

99 ford contour 2.0 dohc timing belt replacement... i have the alignment tool and blanking plug but which way are the cams turned to align?

Engine Timing Belt/Chain Illustration
Figure 1
fm1069500554000x.pngBefore installing tool. If the belt broke turn the engine so the #1 piston is half way up. This way you will not bend the valves while turning cams. If you feel that the cams are very hard to turn or stops turning then turn crank by hand to lower piston away from valve. Then turn the cams clockwise or counter clockwise slow one at a time too the proper slot position for the tool to fit. Once the cam marks are lined up bring the #1 piston to its TDC.

Cam (DOHC) placement before installing new timing belt

**** squeeze bang blow ,no 1 piston at the top with the head off then a blob of white paint to mark it ,easire than flywheel through a hole .Now back it off so piston is about at least an inch or two down the bore then put the head on ,their are timing marks on the cam bearings somewhere ??but this old dinasaur has forgotten now with head on fit the cams and this is the good bit ,easy really using a 22/24 mm open spanner turn the cams till the valves on no1 cylinder point upwards ,both cams pointing the same way up ,then no 4 should be open with the cams pushing the valves open ,then look for a slot on the back of the cam ---it should be horizontal ,i made a special tool for this ,a piece of ally just long enough slot into the two grooçves and hold them together ,bring the piston back up to teh paint mark then and fit the timing belt and remember their is no woodruff keys on these engines so put some evostick contact adhesive on the bolts before you refit them ,also remove fill teh combustion chambers with diesel and see if it runs through ,with head on bench and upside down before you refit it ,and then have a ceremonial fire dance whilst you burn the haynes manual,,,,,??look on acknowledgements in the front?? anyone actually hold a motor vehicle degree ??? like mine ,,associate member of the institute of road transport engineers ,their all uni grads who have never held a greasy spanner in their hand in all their days ,posh accents and the stuff that comes from rear end of a bull
