Question about 2002 Mercury Cougar

1 Answer

How do you change the Fuel Pump on a 2001 Cougar? My car is hesitating and stalling quite a bit. Doing some research, I located that is could be a faulty Fuel Pump, due to contamination. I'd like to change it, but am not sure how. My car is one of the "lucky few" that is not covered under the recall. Can someone help? Also - what is the best type of fuel pump to get?

Possible pump issue. Carbon on valves can cause these issues as well. GM has a top end cleaner to run through the fuel rail and decarbonize the valves and injectors.

Engine hesitates upon exceleration

Does it hesitate when climbing a hill, too? Might be a fuel pump or fuel pump filter. Suspect these components when an engine stalls or hesitates when more gasoline is required.

The switch is located in the drivers side panel in the foot well, there is a hole in the panel for access to the reset button, this panel is commonly called the kick panel, it is to the left of your foot in the drivers foot well once again..
