Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

2 Answers

Where can I find a wiring harness that is placed just behind the front drivers side wheel. It is the one that connects all of the tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, etc. I had an accident that tore my existing one apart.

The site did not help as it would not give me any categories to choose from after selecting my year, make of vehicle and would mainly take me back to where I started. I will try a dealership next.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4 Dr. crew cab, short bed. I was in an accident and crushed the wiring harness just behind the drivers side front tire that passes all of the wires to control the rear lights such as the brake lights, turn signal, running lights, reverse, etc. I tried to pass the wires through by matching each color coded wire to a couple of barrier strips but only some of the lights work and most are unpredictable such as turning on the right signal activates the left and right signal, only one brake light will work and when the hazzard lights are activated the top and middle lights on the left side of the truck flash. I don;t necesarily need all of the wiring just the inter connect to pass them through properly. I tried one reccomended site "Fix it Ya" but could not find any parts. Thanks!

Well, you have done everything I would have done, But, I'd try getting the harness from a scrapyard (far cheaper than new) Another thing to consider is that signals etc may run through a control module which may have been damaged if wires shorted when crushed. If so, connecting the wires correctly will not restore proper function of lighting.

Specifically I'm trying to identify the wire on the spark plug coil assembly to which I should connect the signal wire of a Tachometer to. The wire colours are, red, yellow, green/white, and blue.

It says the tachometer wire is Yellow/Green, you do not have that listed. You will find it in the list below, it is highlighted..

Can not get my tail lights to work onk 1989 gmc truc

The front park lights work correct? If the front park lights work than there is not a problem with the light switch since the brown wire from the switch supplies power to the front park lights, front side markers, and the rear taillights. There should be twelve volts on the brown wire from the headlight switch with the connector plugged in and the park lights turned on. If this is true that there is a problem with the wiring to the back of the vehicle. A thorough inspection of the harness should reveal the problem. The dim break and blinkers support the above. High resistance also know as corrosion, in the wires or connections would cause this problem.

My o3 navigators adjustable brakes will only move about 1/2 inch either direction. It's fine if they don't work but is there any way to move them to the farthest position manually?

With both tail light lenses removed locate the black with yellow wires and the dark green with brown wires coming out of the brake/tail/turn signal sockets.

The black with yellow wire will be the running lights or tail lights and the brown wire from the trailer harness will attach to it.

The green wire on the trailer harness will be the right turn signal and will be attached to the passenger side tail light harness dark green with brown wire.

The yellow wire on the trailer harness will be the left turn signal and will be attatched to the dark green with brown wire on the drivers side tail light harness.

The white wire on the trailer harness is the ground wire and will need to be attached to a good ground. Is it pretty easy to crimp an eyelet onto the end of the wire and use a self tapping screw to attach it to the body behind one of the tail light lenses.

Here is a trailer light/wiring article I have done in the past. It has a couple of good tips you may find useful.

Passenger tail light inoperational. i switched the harnesses and the driver side works when i switch the female ends. found a frayed wire on the passenger side... spliced it and did not get any changes. ...

check the driver side! Usually those old subs were wired to use the driving side first and then pigtail over to the passenger side... Also, alot of the tail light problems are caused from mud & snow piling up behind your back bumper... this cause weight on the wires and SNAP! Tail lights stop working! You're just going to have to follow that wire harness back until you find it! By the way, Check your ground behind the tail light covers! They also tend to rust and loose connections! Another problems are the sockets going bad! I replaced mine about once evey 5 years... annoying, bad got to love suburbans!

I have an 1986 chevy c30 pickup i have no tail lights and only one the brake light and turn signal work on the left side

Do you have dash lights? If you don't then the problem with the tail lights is a bad headlight switch. Tail and dash lights are on the same circuit. If the dash lights are working then you will have to go to the connector under the box on the driver's side just behind the bumper. Chances are there is corrosion there. It could be in the connector but is more likely to be at the back where the wires go in. Use a test light on both sides of the connector to check. You should have 4 wires, brown for tail lites, yellow for driver's blinker, dark green for other blinker and light green for back up. Also check and probably repair the black ground wires. Make sure they are clean bare metal and so too the place where they ground on the body. If this doesn't work, pull the wire harness out of the box and check it carefully for cracks in the insulation where it could ground out or breaks in the wire. Hope this helps.

Is 2010 equinox trailer wiring the same as a2009 equinox

No the wiring system changed to a 2-wire system. You actually wouldn't need a specific harness. You could purchase a 4-flat connecter (at least 60" long) and directly splice it in behind your tail lights. The 4-flat will have 4 colors
Yellow-Left turn/Stop Green- Right turn/Stop Brown-Running Lights White-Ground
The Equinox wiring colors are quite similar. I will list the 4-flat color first-and then the Equinox color.
Driver side behind the taillight. Yellow-Yellow/Black Brown-Brown White-Black
Passenger Side Green-Green/Black

Tail lights and brake lights not working - not fuse - what can it be?

Brake light switch, located on upper brake pedal should be checked, that is most likely your brake light issue, but U say tail lights aren't working, but running lights do, tail lights and running lights I would consider to be the same, so can u clarify that for me? Let me know how the u do w/ brake light switch, and if u have issue w/ tail lights?
