WHEN I TURN THE KEY ON MY 1997 CHEVY CAMARO IT DOES NOTHING WON'T EVEN CLICK THE STARTER. THE BATTERY IS GOOD AND HAVE LIGHTS AND POWER TO THE AIR CONDITION FAN

Not sure that it's my same problem but I found that my 2002 had a chip/resistor in the key. We measured the resistance and then went under the dash locating the red(hot) wire to the ignition switch, then cut it and built a resistor to the specs of they key and inserted it into the starter wire. Simply put, you are making the starter sense the resistance and start the car when the key is turned. Hope that helped. We searched it through google and it told us how to build the resistor. There was also a spec and directions to determine the resistance of the key.

Okay, so we replaced the battery, and the electrical stuff works, but we still cannot start the car. The repair guy says it's not the starter, but thinks it has something to do with a block from the...

Yes, I have had to change the ignition decoder on my 91 camaro. If u have a second key to the car, try it, to make sure it is not a defective chip in the key.

Lost keys to 91 chevy camoaro. put in new ignition switch. will not start . What do I do

the old key might be for the immoberlizer as well if it has one so you will not be turning the immoberlizer off if it is coded to the key

I believe it is electrical, and someone,
1.Has tried to bypass the use of the correct ignition key,
2.Or a fusible link for the starter is blown.

Does the ignition key have a chip on the side of it? The 1990 Camaro uses an ignition key with a resistor on the side of it. (Chip)

I had a guy install a radio, cut many wires, then wired it up wrong.
I found fusible links in the engine compartment that were blown, and wires that weren't hooked up correctly.
Took a couple of days, plus the wiring schematic for the engine compartment, and interior, to figure out what he had done!

My suggestion would be to find out if the ignition key fits THAT car first. (Dealer info)
Find out if it's the correct steering column.
Then look under the engine compartment to check out the starter wiring. You'll need 1990 Camaro wiring diagrams.

The prior owner bypassed the ignition switch with that push button momentary switch, because either/or a fusible link has melted through, or it is the wrong ignition key. (And maybe a different steering column complete with key switch!)

The 'Chip' on the key is a resistor, and THE correct resistance is needed to bypass the theft deterrent system.

The VATS system has 15 possible ohmic variations in the key .One might use an ohm meter and measure the resistance in your key as this is simply a resistor producing an ohmic value which must match the resistance value the VATS module wants to see. There is a 2 wire key reader in the ignition cylinder that sends this signal to the VATS module looking for a match. One may surf the web and see ways to bypass VATS but I have never tried this and its is fairly sophisticated process which requires an accurate DVOM meter that reads OHMS

You are dealing with the wrong dealership.I was quoted $57.00 for a new key and they told me the resistance. Phone around and you will get satisfaction. Moe

No chip in the key

There is a  security resistor on the key and your going to have to get a new key from GM dealer and  it will come programmed right from the dealer. Once you have the new pass lock keys, your going to have to reprogram the Cars ECM to recognize the new keys and takes about 30 min. You can call a lock smith to come to you and he can cut new pass lock keys and reprogram the car and keys together where you are so you don't have to pay for the tow to the dealer. Good luck and hope this helps.

The ignition KEY to my 91 camaro broke i want to hot wire it for now what would be the least destructive way and how

Unfortunately your key has a chip in it which prevents anyone from hot-wiring it. Did the key break off inside the ignition cylinder on the column? If so, you should be able to turn the car on right?. If you have to replace the ignition cylinder you must have the key in the cylinder to remove the old one. I wish I could see this up close so that I could fix it for you. Keep me posted please.

1992 camaro RS 5.0 5 spd starting issues

yeah the "chip" in the key, you can get resistors ,because what is happening is the resistor in the key is worn and not providing the correct amount of resistance,
