Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

My 1997 Buick LeSabre just recently got a new battery and changed upper intake manifold. Now, my A/C doesn't cool (my car did sit for over a year before it was fixed) and when you take the key out of the ignition the "bell" dings like the key is still in. Sometimes adjusting the Steering column stops it. Now, my key intermittently will not start my car. Not sure where to check first. Please help.

You have a vacuum leak. The climate control is hooked to the vacuum ports on the upper intake plenum. Check for leaks there.

Just put new spark plugs in 97 buick lasabre. Car now starts and runs, but is blowing out white smoke. Is this blown head gaskets? Does it have anything to do with the fuel pump put on 3 weeks ago?

these cars have issues with coolent getting into the intake... headgaskets are not one of the issues . check plugs for coolent. upper plastic intake has coolent flow in to chambers if u will, and over time they get micro cracks and brittle ...lower intake manifold gaskets are plastic also. ..cyl. heads are cast iron not alluminum . lower intake manifold is alluminum and upper intake is plastic .. on my lesabre a plastic 90 degree elbow connected to the lower intake manifold to the heater hose housing. the belt tensioner is connected to this housing im refering to. not saying for sure, but if it is this is usually why...

Intermittent Misfire on cyl #4 1997 Buick Lesabre

How's your coolant level? The intake manifolds on the 3.8L engines are prone to breakage at various locations causing coolant leaks into the crankcase and vacuum leaks on intake ports.Removal of the upper intake manifold will be necessary for inspection. Also, check for vacuum leaks at various locations on the outside of the intake manifold using WD-40 or brakeclean/carburetor cleaner sprayed hoses, non-electrical components, at the base of the manifold etc. As for a faulty injector, not likely but if you suspect one you can always swap the suspect injector with another on the engine and see if the misfire follows the injector. Just be sure to relieve the fuel pressure before servicing. Hope this helps.
