There is nothing for the left or right directionals or brake light or emergency flashers. There is power at the vehicle receptacle for the tail lights. Everthing was working fine yesterday. Today I was rewiring the trailer. I suspect I blew a fuse. My question is there a seperate fuses for the factory tow package trailer wiring? All the vehicle lights work as they should

  • Gerald Gier Jul 17, 2009

I was only rewiring the trailer. The vehicle recepticle checked out just fine the day before. I have tail light power on the vehicle receptical but no power for left or right turn signal, flashes. or \brakes.

Found fuse and it was blown.

Yes, there should be a separate fuse for the trailer lights. I would also check for a bad grounding/broken wires/disconnected wires and did you say that you had voltage at the plug or not (please check if you didn't already since you were rewiring)? Maybe you also got some wiring mixed up when you rewired.

Some tailer is fused, look for the module wire to battery 1st.

The second thing to inspect are all the light bulbs and socket.

Trailer module use the Jeep 12V brake light to power up.

Take light bulb one at at time to inspect for bad element.

Sometime you may find a single contact bulb jam into a dual element socket.......this can be the cause of your problem.

Trailer module does not last forever, it's gone into water......it will shorten it service life.

Is it a 4 pins flat or round plug with trailer brake system?

G502,
You didn't mention what type of trailer harness connection you have, is a 4 terminal flat, a round 5 terminal or a round 7 terminal connection system.
In any case, you can get started using the following.

Disconnect the jeep harness from the trailer harness, use a test light to see if the turn signals are working at the jeep harness connector. You can ground the test light to the trailer hitch or frame, turn on the turn signals and probe the terminals inside the connector. If the turn signals are working at the connector, one terminal will blink for each individual turn signal lamp, right and left. If all is OK at that the Jeep harness connector, we can move on to the trailer.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,

Where to find the wire going to the trailer towing plug for the braking.

As far as I know, your trailer towing package does not include a circuit for trailer braking. These packages normally only supply taillights, brake-lights, and turn signals.
RV sales and service dealerships should be able to help you.
God bless your efforts.

I'm trying to wire my 89 jeep wrangler to be towed useing it's existing lights.the turn signals both flash when right or left is on? I've tryed it under the dash with no luck now all the way...

If the brake and turn signal are on the same bulb than you can Orin straight wiring. If the brake and turn signal are on different bulbs than you'll need a wiring harness with a converter box. I'm pretty sure the wrangler has the brake and turn signal on the Same bulb so let's start with basic trailer wiring. The green wire on the trailer harness is for the right side turn and brake for the trailer. This wire should be attached to the wire on the vehicle that supplies power to the right turn signal/ brake light. The yellow wire is the left turn signal, brake light on the trailer and should be attached to the wire on the vehicle that supplies power to the left turn signal /brake light. The brown wire is the tail lights on the trailer and should be attached to either the left or right side wire on the vehicle that supplies power to the tail lights. The white wire is grounD and it is vitally important that this wire be attached to the vehicle in a manor that supplies a good ground. Failure to suppy a good ground will result in all kinds of funky problems with the trailerer lighting such as all the lights linking when the tail lights and turn signals are on at the same time. If you have any specific questions I will be more than happy to try and help. Good luck.

Trailer wiring problem. Tow vehicle is a 2008 Grand Caravan with 4 wire plug. Double checked, plug function works fine. When trailer is plugged to tow vehicle with tow vehicle lights OFF the trailer...

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

I do not have power on the aux. terminal in the trailer plug on a 2008 dodge ram. Any ideas?

You have got 7 pin trailer connector that was included in the optional trailer tow package. This trailer tow package also includes an electric trailer brake wiring provision that terminates at a connector located on top of the large body harness connection under the instrument panel to the left of the break pedal, as well as an electric trailer brake pigtail harness and an instruction card that are stored in the glove box when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. You will need to add an electric brake controller of your choice that will plug-in to the harness and that will also give you power on your auxiliary circuit.

Pass. side trailer turn and brake lights out 1999 ford explorer

if your vehicle lights are working all the fuses will be good. follow the cable from the towing socket on your vehicle , it will most likely go behind one of the rear lights to connect into your cars system,
check your tester where the cables join and you should find the problem. hope this helps.
