Question about 2000 Kia Sportage
I think she pressed the button on the side of the shifter by accident. If she presses it again, it should go off.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.
Assuming a first generation Sportage, sounds like a problem with the vehicle speed sensor on the back of the transfer case (4wd) or transmission extension housing (2wd).
Could be as simple as a corroded/broken wire, through to a malfunction in the speed sensor. It is located on the transmission extension housing, right at the back of the transmission. It should be the only electrical connection in that area so not to difficult to pick.
Before you go replacing it, try to clean the electrical contacts in the plug and socket by unplugging/replugging the connector together a few times. Area under there is subject to a lot of road dirt/salt/corrosion.
