Sounds like axles/wheels jumping when driving can hear clonking but its not prop shafts

Could be a number of things seeing how i dont know what kind of auto you have i will name a few for you to check front u joints wheel bearings cv joint. broken anti sway bar or bushings to name a few of most common

How do I know if my cv joint or whell bearing is bad? I hear a grind sound and a vibration when I turn the wheel to the lt. not so much going straight or to the rat. I have a 2007 Pontiac torrent awf

Try this.
Jack the car up and rest it on axle stands. You will be shaking the car so you will need it to be safe.
To test a wheel bearing. with the wheel off the ground, grab the wheel top and bottom. Rock it hard back and forward. Then grab the wheel at left and right. Again rock the wheel left and right. If it feels solid it's not likely to be the wheel bearing.
For the CV joint, lower the car and find a large, safe open area to drive in. Turn the steering hard left and drive at about 30mph in a tight circle. Do the same to the right. A CV joint will give a constant "clonk, clonk' noise.
A wheel bearing will make noise that isn't affected by steering but will change with speed. A grumbling, whine noise.
Worn CV joints only make noise at a full hard turn. All the way left / right with a little bit of speed.

Hi my hilux has developed a clunk when pulling away and changing gear sounds like the prop???

Apply parking break. Gently rock vehicle forward / reverse. Thud location should be more prominent. Either drive shaft cradle, U-Joint, or rear differential bump stops.
Other issues may include wheel lug torque / loose wheel, or loose axle U-Bolt Hanger to leaf springs.
If clearance permits, crawl under vehicle and move, shake, twist drive shaft with your hands. The cause should obvious... Good Luck!

They are mainly used in front wheel drive, and many modern rear wheel drive cars with independent rear suspension typically use CV joints at the ends of the rear axle halfshafts, and increasingly use them on the prop shafts drive shafts.

My peugeot 206 52 plate is making a clunkin metal noise from offside almost in front of the wheel when lifting the clutch up it also rattles and does rattle in the same place when driving going over bumps...

The most likely causes will be...
A worn ball joint on the front suspension.
A broken front spring.
A worn driveshaft.
Most mechanics will have a look for you at no cost.
But you can test as follows.
(Driveshaft=) in an EMPTY car park or similar area turn your steering as far as you can to the left. Drive in a circle at about 20mph and listen. If faulty you will hear a regular "clonk, clonk, clonk" noise. Repeat this with your steering hard over to the right as well. It might be louder in one direction than the other.
(Ball joint=) DO NOT DO THIS ON JUST THE JACK!! PUT IT ON AXLE STANDS!!
Make sure the steering lock is ON.
Jack the car up and PUT IT ON AXLE STANDS for stability. Using a bit of effort grab the top and bottom of the wheel and try to rock it. Grab the wheel at left and right and repeat. Other than some steering movement it should be solid. There will be movement if the joint is worn, there may even be a click or clonk noise.
(Spring=) As for the ball joint test PUT IT ON AXLE STANDS!!
With the car off the ground take off the front wheel. Using a torch get a good look at the spring from the top all the way down to the bottom. There should be no breaks, shiny or missing pieces. Gently, but firmly, try and move the spring. It should be straight and not move. Do this both sides.

I have a 97 trans sport and when i drive it it pops real loud, and almost feels like passenger side front end jumps

check your front wheel drive axles/half shafts, see if the rubber boots that cover the bearings are not torn or missing.. sounds like you might need to replace the axle/half shaft on the passengers side

Creaking sound while turning steering wheel

i'll bet this is a front wheel drive or four wheel drive. when the front wheels are tied to the drive train. the front axle shafts bearings can go kaput. jack up the vehicle and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and spin one tire at a time by hand. you are bound to hear snaping and cracking coming from the axle shafts.

My Gm Suburban (140,000 miles) makes a rumble from under the car when I turn left. The noise comes during and after I have completed the turn and sounds like four bumps. I do not have any trouble turning....

It sounds like it could be a worn CV joint (constant velocity) - It's the flexible coupling that connects the drive shaft to a steer wheel.


A good test for this is as follows:

While stationary, turn the steering fully to the left and then pull away slowly. If you hear a clonk, clonk, clonk sound it is a sign of a worn CV joint. Repeat with the steering turned to the right.

This will only manifest itself if drive is actually being supplied through the front wheels. You said the 4WD is not working - Do you know if it is driving the front or rear wheels?

Fortunately replacing CV joints is not too difficult or expensive a job. It would be wise to change both left and right at the same time.
