Before doing that adjustment check the rear brake shoes if they are worn replace them and you won't need to tighten the cable, if you must follow the cable up from the rear brakes to the spot where they come into one soak down the long threaded adjuster rod with liquid wrench then loosen the lock nut on the long threaded adjuster rod and turn the rod while holding the housing with pliers, after check ing play in lever lock the nut to the threaded rod and housing.

1999 chevy cavalier transmission won't shift into

1999 cavelier manual trans: My son was shifting his manual trans really rough (ramming through the gears to try to beat someone out at a light) and ended up not being able to put it into anything but 3 and 4 (straight up and down). We noticed that the shifter cable, that actuates the position of the arm on the transmission, had pulled away from a "c" clip and was not held into place about 8-10 inches down the cable away from the trans. The cable needs to be secured into that clip in order to let the wire inside move the trans. lever to shift. Otherwise you will be stuck on what ever "rail" your trans is on at the time of disconnection. It would be the first thing that I would check.

I need to tighten the emergency brake cable, where is the place where the brake cable is tightened?

Hello, There are really two things to do. There is an equalizer adjustment in the rearward part of the cable to make both rear wheels operate evenly. Put on the Ebrake lightly and see if both rear brakes are applying even pressure. Adjust until they are balanced.

Then push down fully on the Ebrake lever until tight, then push down, repeat and the Ebrake reel under the dash will draw in the extra slack.

Where is the ebrake adjuster on a 1996 chevy cavalier

Under the car, typically the cables join together near the middle or back.  There may be a threaded rod at one end and a clip at the other end, which rests on the cable to the rear wheels.  This threaded rod (if available) can be tightened to adjust the e-brake. Severe conditions are in this location so be prepared to make or replace this adjuster as it may be seized completely.
I'm not certain that there is any adjustment though but if there is, this would be the only adjustment beyond replacing the brake shoes.

How to put front breaks on a 1999 chevy automatic cavalier

Place the bike on a stand, disconnect the cable, remove the wheel, set the wheel brake side up, use the bolt slightly inserted in the drum, or two oposing screw drivers around the drum to pull it from the wheel. Once pulled, remove the springs and shoes, lightly sand the inner drum on the wheel, install new pads and springs, spray both drums with brake clean, reassemble drums and wheel, install the wheel, and then adjust cable tension and brake pressure at first the wheel, and then at the bars. Test and readjust as needed.
