my 2.2 99 s10 died while i was driving just as if the key was turned off, pressure on the rail was below required pressure, after a new fuel pump my gm factory trained mech helped 2 determine that the timing chain was gone after only 9k miles-the chain had disintergrated and chewed up tensioners and all, fuel presssure will not build up if no valve action do to broken cchain

What engine do you have, and it does have a timing chain problem? What is wrong with it?

Fuel pressure will build up, if your pump is working, it just won't go anywhere. Chains will go on these if there becomes a lot of resistance, like a missfire. One of the gears is like a plastic, and chews up under a large load on it. If like you say it's bad, it needs to be replaced.

only half way there if you have a tbi check the crank sensor/ cam sensor that is the first line of business on that truck if the crankshaft sensor fails the truck stops dead when you wait a few minutes the sensor re energizes and the truck will work again for a bit antiknock can cause similer problems but not while the truck is running

1999 Chevy s10 starts and dies imedately.

The wonderful GM passlock has your fuel shut down. Try putting your key in turn it on dont start it wait 10mins and turn off remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this 3 times a total of 30mins. If that dont work try it with a different key. If that dont work your ignition switch needs replaced and only a dealer can reprogram the new keys. Good luck, counting my kids I have 5 Gm products like this and 3 of them have caused the same problem. I have been able to avoid the dealer with the above procedure

Car starts then it dies

G.M. had alot of problems with the ignition switches in those cars. I would start there. 9 out of 10 times it's the switch.

1999 gmc suburban fuel pump

I had the same problem with my 99 suburban. There was a memo sent out by GM to all of the service shops that tell them when you replace the fuel pump or just desconnect it you need to replace the pigtail wiring harness that connects to the pump or it will burn up the new pump. I went through 3 pumps before I found this out after I replace the pigtail it fixed the problem.

'99 chevy caviler fires right up, but then dies after started, like out of gas. Fuel relay sensor? fuel filter? fuel pump?

If it is fuel injected it will get enough fuel to start but not stay running. I had the same problem with my S10. Turns out the hose that went on to the end of the fuel pump was roted. pull the sending unit and check the hose connections to the pump and the sending unit. If problem presists replace filter first the pump.
