If this is in forward gears only, you could be looking at a forward clutch assembly issue. First thing to do is verify your fluid level, is it low or is it at the correct level.
Depending upon milage, has the fluid and filter been changed? Fluid and filter should be changed every 50,000 miles of service. If this is a high milage vehicle and has not had the fluid changed, start with draining off 4 quarts of transmission fluid and replenish with 4 new quarts of the recommended Ford tranmission fluid then drive the vehicle for 200 miles or so. The object of this is to slowly introduce the fresh oil and additives back into the high milage transmission and not "shock" it too much.
Transmission fluid never looses its ability to lubricate, but the additives that keep the seals and clutch plates in good condition do wear out.
After the 200 miles of refresh, remove the pan, drain all the fluid including the torgue convertor and radiator cooler, replace the filter and pan, refill transmission with the appropriate Ford transmission fluid.
If the forward clutch plates are not worn out, you should start to see an improvement after the 200 mile refresh. If you do not see any improvement, we will have to look further.

Good luck, let me know how it works out.
Best Regards.

Symptom : chattering or vibration while idling, and in Park.
Transmission sluggish upon Accelaration..

Step 1: chock Block all your wheels, and put your Auto emergency brake on (applied).

Step 2: You step on your gas pedal with engine in Drive, Full throttle. do not hold your regular brake pedal...Hold gas pedal down for 2 seconds your car will try to move. All wheels must not slip.

Step 3: watch your rpm gauge, your stall should be between 2400-2800 rpm depending on specification of manufacturer..

a high reading is a slipping one way clutch..

94 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L V-6, automatic transmission slips from first to second

guesses? there are over 10.

1; low level or too high ATF.
2: filter packed. do the service now.
3: low pump pressure.
4: bad clutch packs, if it slips now, it will get worse faster.
5: or any of the other vast ways to get the wrong pressure to the servos. (huge list)
the fsm covers on car check for a/T why not read that.?
every step.

Transmission

A/T or M/T (auto or stick ,we dont know)
n moving in drive, reverse or Low or 1? or 2? (me too lazy to look what tranny you have)
it can be 2 things
1: lack of engine power
2: bad clutch or transmission

who do we tell? easy
you step on gas , RPM goes way high and MPH dont. (slips)
tranny slip.
you step on gas, RPM tracks with MPH, good ,
you then do the 5second max. tranny stall test in every car FSM made. and see the stall speed, with brakes hard set.
too high is tranny slip
way to low, engine power POOR.

alldata.com has all this on tranny. stall speed.
the FSM turn to on car A/T service, see STALL test.
bingo.
or youtube the vast number of videos on topic, stall.

wont move at all ,can be :
brake drag (passes stall test)
but first , the tests are, for bad engine or trans,
pick the one it is , state so, and we can go much farther.

Turbo 350 slipping in 3rd gear fluid clean, think the kickdown linkage cuased it.. Runs ok in 1st and second, then around 45mph it slips and i ease off and it slowly grabs and slips again!

Have you serviced the transmission? There is a filter, in the transmission pan that gets clogged with disk material, then the trans pressure gets reduced, then slipping and damage happens.
