Rear calipers, unlike front calipers, just can't be pressed in. You have to turn and press at the same time. If you don't have the special tool for this, channel locks, and large pliers would do the job. It's not easy doing this without the proper tool, but it can be managed with a little patience.

The brake calipar pistons on the rear, have to be turned in with a special tool, they can't be pressed in like the front. turn them in just far enough for the new pads to fit over the rotors.

2004 Ford freestar.. left Rear disc brake locked up.. the pads are shot but do I absolutely have to change the caliper?

You could try striping and cleaning the caliper then rebuilding it if you are able to get a kit to replace the rubber parts and pistons that are damaged

My rear brakes are locked up. What could be the problem

If your car has drum brakes, they probably worn to the point that the brake cylinder has had to push out the actuators so far, they popped out and won't go back in. Remove your wheels, use a screwdriver to back off your brakeshoes till you can remove the brake drum. Replace brakeshoes and the cylinders.

There is air in the brake system and must be bled. They have devices for bleeding the system...basically you need to replace the air with fluid. Hope this helps !

How to change brake discs nissan primera

Changing brake disc is a lot of work. Why not just go to your mechanic so that it will be more accurate and functional. But if you really want to know it. I have researched a video presentation for it at here.

Freestar 2004 rear brake light won't go off. Bulb

I'm assuming all of the brake lights are on? If so there is a brake light switch located way up under the dash that hits on the arm for your brake pedal. If this is not "closed" when the pedal is up (not depressed), your brake lights will stay on. It is adjustable.

Changed caliper on 2005 ford freestar and now brakes are spongie.

Use a vacuum pump brake bleeder starting at the furthest point from the master cylinder. They cost abt $35. Be sure to keep master cylinder full... :)

2004 freestar

new calipers now. and i had to replace both discs. Ford Freestar is renowned for it's rear brakes wearing prematurely.

anyway, after forcing banging, and utterly destroying two heavy duty c-clamps, i check forums and found you MUST rent a tool from an auto parts store (mine was free loaner from Checker, just had to give them $80 and bring it back undamagaed, they give you back 100% back). Anyway the tool twists the calipers as it pushes them back. you cannot just force the calipers back with straight force.
