How can I replace belt tensioner and serpentine belt?
it's on 93 Lexus LS 400
I have 1993 ls400 and that is making noise, the guy at shop quoted me 650 , i said what? he said tensioner costs 390 , i went and found tensioner for 120 on amazon and belt for 25 , the guy wants 100 for labor, so i'm thinking if it's easyi see only 4 screws on tensioner i might as well do it myself. so if anyone knows can i do it in hour or 2?

check belt for damage or wear ---check all pulleys a bearing maybe bad and causing a wobble or not turning --check the tension pulley if no tention belt will be to loose
first look at belt if loose worn cracked glazed or just plain old and worn out change because a bad belt makes noise when slipping on pulleys ------if belt is good than look at belt tensioner ---- and pulleys to all components ---and listen to the area when vehicle running for grinding or squeal
if all other doors work the door lock actuator needs replaced most likely. if door switch works the same. if not then it could be a bigger problem in the circuit or remote control module. use a meter to test for signal to lock actuator. if no signal then ck control unit. if signal replace lock actuator.
COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.
Since work was recently done to the vehicle I would look to see if any connections were left unplugged or inadvertantly knocked loose. Make sure to check the battery terminals and cables to ensure tightness and a solid connection.
not sure about your tensioner setup but some have a half inch square hole in the front and you have to put a long socket handle (The square end) into that hole and pull back on it to release the tension on the belt
Good luck
