Good old case of leaky air intake tube.

The air flow meter read the temp and air density to the computer ECU but the leaky air tube (between air flow meter to intake spot on the engine ADD A LOT MOVE air and offset the temp.

So you engine ECU see on set of info and the ACTUAL air density and air temp. are different.

SEAL the tube the best you can.

Vacuum leak can also show the same symptom.

Dakota p0171 p0174 taurus

code p0171 refers to system to lean bank 1==causes intake /exhaust leak--AIR system--MAP/MAF sensor--fuel pressure/pump--injectors--HO2s Have a fuel pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check for blocked filter/faulty pump/fuel pressure regulator faults
code p0174 refers to system to lean bank 2 --same causes including hose connection/s
code p0420 refers to catalytic converter system -bank 1 efficiency below threshold==causes catalytic converter--wiring--HO23. Check the cat converter is not cracked inside and the oxygen sensor is working.

Check engine light with codes P0171 & P0174, hesitation at accelleration 2001 mercury sable.

P0171 & P0174 indicate Lean burning on banks 1 and 2. The most common cause is a dirty or defective MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. Other causes are bad fuel filters or a broken vacuum line.

Check engine light on; engine codes P0171 and P0174

p0171 is lean exhaust bank one ( passenger side) and p0174 is lean exhaust bank 2 ( drivers side). First we need to look for vacuum leaks, low fuel pressure, Intake air leaks after the mass air flow sensor, pvc system. Because you have both sides lean I would start looking at these spots.

P0171 and P0174 Left and Right bank lean trouble codes pulled from ECU. Check Engine Light illuminated.

P0171 = system too lean bank 1
P0174 = system too lean bank 2

The fuel/air mixture is too lean for the entire engine. The fuel pump pressure could be too low. The fuel pump pressure regulator could be at fault. There could be an air leak downstream of the MAF sensor. MAF sensor (hot wire type) could be dirty. Check for intake manifold vacuum leaks. The engine coolant temp sensor and/or the intake air temp sensor could be faulty (stuck at full hot mode).

I am getting a code p0171 and p0174 on my 1999 ford ranger 3.0 liter

P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1

P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2

That means your car is getting a lot of air and not enough fuel which will make the engine Misfire and rough idle. Well i can say check your mass air flow for any dirt in it and the EGR for any leaks. And also the fuel pump and the fuel lines or any restricted fuel filter. Good luck bro

Diagnostic Codes p0171 bank 1, and p0174 bank 2 (too lean)

Those codes are for the oxygen sensors, lean fuel mixture on both banks. Change them, problem with stalling and rough idle should go away.

P0171

There are a number of things that can cause these codes to come up (they mean bank 1 and bank 2 lean fuel mix, which is too much air, or not enough gas ), Here are some possibilities:
common on fords--bad differential pressure sensor (DPFE), this sensor is located on the engine near the EGR valve, it monitors EGR flow, it may be misreading the flow, which increases EGR resulting in a too lean fuel mix. To fix, replace DPFE.
Leak @ PCV valve
Leak @ EGR valve
Dirty Mass Air Flow Sensor
Dirty fuel injectors
Low fuel pressure
Vac leak @ intake manifold.
So, sorry there are so many possibilities, but now u have a list. Let me know what u find.
