Question about 2006 Volvo S40
Your vehicle has an evaporator drain tube which can clog causing the condensate water to retain and drip from the housing onto the carpeting.I have seen almost everything known to man find their way into this tube .The strangest to date for me was a mouse that used this tube as an entry to his new condo and apparently went in and out successfully a few times by evidence of dwelling in the actual evaporator housing.

SOURCE: drain line stopped up
You are correct...Look for a small rubber hose protruding from the firewall on the passenger side about even with the bottom of the inside heater box. do not stick anything hard in there or you can damage parts. usually just working it a bit or sticking your finger in there will get it flowing again.

SOURCE: water on passenger floorboard
Iside the car,in the middle of the console is a shallow tray. Its job is to catch the codensation that drips off the aircon.Same as you see hoses coming off home aircons.this is what is in the car. There is a hose, about as thick as a finger, that drains the codensation out through the firewall of the car and into the rear of the engine bay to the ground. There may be 2 hoses. One either side if its a split catchtray. The hose has either been knocked off or is blocked.Usually blocked. The tray itself gets dirt in it and this is where 'gunk' can buildup over the drain hole.Find the hose and shoot some compressed air up the hose or run some line trimmer cord up there.Hope this helps

There is a drain line on the AC system under the hood. Here is a youtube video on how to fix it. I would personally take the tube off and clean it if possible. But as the video shows you dont have to.
