Question about 1997 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

My 1997 camaro 3.8 keeps losing fuel pressure. I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel regulator. The car will run for 15 minutes and then the fuel pressure drops from 43 lbs to 5 lbs. any suggestions.

I have taken it out of the tank and messed with it twice. Still hasn't fixed the problem. my car has trouble codes P0172 and P0175 as well as P0300 which indicate that it is running rich and has a misfire. Any suggestions?

That is a tough pump to service in that model but you may need to have one more look at it and do a possible replacement again...these are not good numbers high and low.

do you mean the pressure relief valve, this is located normally on the low pressure or return side of your fuel rail, this is designed to maintain fuel pressure in your fuel rail constant, e.g. steady running requires steady pressure, acceleration requires increased pressure controled by engine vacuum, if it was on the supply line you can not regulate the pressure supplied to the injecters. stopped engine requires no pressure so the pump gets turned off with the ignitionf

My camaro stalls when its cold and hesitates when i push the accelerator

Sounds kinda like the engine is leaning out. Is it a 1990 or a 1997? Is the check engine light on? For 1990s, an inexpensive key can be purchased at a parts store that you can plug into the ALDL (Diagnostic Port) and then count the flashes of your check engine light to read codes. I would change the fuel filter too, just because it's easy and cheap. You may want to check the fuel pressure. If it's a '90, the regulators go bad easily and is surprisingly easier than you may think. - MUCH easier that rebuilding an old-school carb! Could also be the pump- hope not! Don't let it run low on gas if you can help it. the gas in the tank acts as a coolant for the motor that drives the fuel pump. GOOD LUCK

I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S A 1990 OR A 1997

I replaced the fuel pump and it died on the way home so i replaced the fuel filter and it is still dying

Check the pressure at the fuel rail in the engine compartment. If it is low possibly the fuel regulator is stuck (bypassing). I have put on new fuel pumps that didn't last very long. It is best to put on a Delco pump the aftermarkets are junk.

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry it starts up and runs for a few seconds and dies right down. I've changed the fuel filter and it seems to run just a little bit longer. But it still will not keep running. A

Check your fuel pressure. It may be low, or losing pressure from a bad pressure regulator. A thorough test of your fuel system seems in order. (A pressure test can also detect a bad regulator, if it's done properly.)

New starter, new alternator, new fuel filter, turns over wont start a little gas in carburator step on gas let off gas turn key starts then runs

check the fuel pump, it sounds like as it sits its losing pressure, when you first turn the key to the on ( not start) do you hear the fuel pump running then shut off? your fuel pump should keep pressure on the line at all times, so if you do hear the pump start it should be a very brief spurt and thats it, you can have the pressure checked at many repair shops for free or low charge,

You may be losing fuel pressure. There is a fuel pressure regulator in the fuel line. It has a check valve in it. If the check valve is bleeding off then you have to get fuel pressure pumped back up. You can verify by turning the key on and letting it sit for about 5 seconds, turn off and then back on and repeat 3 times. This will pump fuel back up to the regulator and should start right away.

Vehicle has a hard starts condition. It will crank but will take about 10 to 15 mins to start, at times even longer. My vehicle has aftermarket shocks, air lid, air filter, 160 degree thermostat, clutch,...

Your fuel pressure is low change fuel pressure regulator if pressure doesn't raise to 55-60psi your fuel pump is failing, change fuel filter also.

97 gmc jimmy loseing fuel power

The first thing I would recommend is that you change your fuel filter and recheck your fuel pressure once you do that. If is persists I would check your fuel pressure regulator as well. A fuel pressure regulator for a 1997 GMC K2500 ran about $45.00 and a fuel filter runs about $7-10.00. That's a lot cheaper to go that route first than to have to spend $350.00 for a new (Lifetime Warrenty) fuel pump that comes with a new sock and sending unit.
