Question about 1983 Toyota Pickup

Trouble with start-up on 1983 Pickup

I have the same problem with starting. When I am in a place to do so, I take off the air filter cover and adjoining hose, pour a little gas down the center of the carb, and it starts every time. However, I can't always let it idle by itself or it will stall. If it does stall, I may have to go through the same process again - like the last post, it doesn't just hop to it again!

ED is right, mean while try pumping gas vigoriously while starting ordenarily this would cause flooding, but in this case it might keep you out from under the hood.
I hop this helps!

I would recommend a carb overhaul. It looks like your choke is not working.

I bought a 1983 ford econoline R V last fall , went to start but no luck??? but found oil in the aircleaner what does this mean ,HELP

Oil in the air cleaner usually means a faulty PCV system. Some of the older Ford engines have a filter screen in the rear of the engine block where the PCV hose attaches. The filters get clogged with catbon and must be replaced. This can also cause severe oil leakage from your valve covers because the excessive crankcase pressure will blow out your valve cover gaskets.

The "no start" problem is likely a seperate problem which will have to be diagnosed.

82 22-R toyota truck automatic runs fine idles fine then for no reason will not idle when stopped. I have to give it gas to keep running but runs rough. New plugs, dist. cap, wires, & rotory button....

I would suggest also replacing all O2 sensors, PCV valve, air filter, fuel filter.. Just might clear it up.. Not expensive and if issue continues - you will have ruled all that out as a cause..

Have a nice day !

Engine trouble with my 1983 toyota pickup

Toyota engines have a built in TSTV- thermo controlled vacuum system where vacuum is applied to the choke system in various levels as according to the temp. of the engine. If the TSTV is faulty or if the vacuum pipes are incorrectly placed then you have a choke which is not opening up properly. Fuel is thus not burnt completely and due to the incomplete combustion there is a formation of soot on your exhaust. Try to get the choke to open up in relation to the temp of the engine. The fuel/air ratio alse needs to be checked ( idle mixture control) once you have the vacuum system working properly.

My 1991 4cyl toyota pickup died while idleing. What are some suggestions on things to look at?

A diagnostic scan is always a good place to start, even if there is no check engine light on. Ignition...are you getting fire to the spark plugs? Fuel pressure, fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, air filter not restricted? Battery fully charged, terminals clean and tight? These are a few basics needed for proper engine mangement.
Good luck...hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.
