Question about 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY TERRANO IT'S AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IF I PUT ON D (DRIVE) THEN ACCELERATE IT'S VERY LATE FOR SHIFTING ESPECIALLY ON TRAFFIC IF YOU PUT ON P OR N THEN PUT BACK ON D THEN ACCELERATE IT FEELS THE DISC WAS SLIDE ITS HIGH ACCELARATION BUT MOVES SLOWLY.KINDLY HELP ME FOR THIS PROBLEM. THANKS
Check transmission fluid after driving for a while, this could be down a bit. If 4 wheel drive, make sure it's in 2H.

Another thing to check, there is a rocker switch in the center console labeled A/T with POWER at the top and HOLD at the bottom. Normally this switch will be in the middle, power and hold alter the transmission shift points - power shifts down sooner - hold will hold in the gear longer.
Is this switch in the HOLD position?
Also these transmissions will limit to 3rd gear in cold weather, until they warm up (about 3 minutes) and then will not change into fifth (Overdrive) until they have further warmed up (about 7 minutes) this is normal for these transmissions.
Check the colour of the transmission fluid it should be redish, if it is brown, then it has deteriorated and should be changed (and filter cleaned).
I had my torque convertor drill and welded, to get all the oil out, and replaced the fluid with synthetic fluid - this will handle much higher temperatures when towing, and will never need to be changed again (according to an Auto transmission specialist).
Also, if towing, and working the transmission hard, never leave the transmission in overdrive.
