1997 Vauxhall Corsa - turns over but does not start when warm

My 1997 Vauxhall Corsa Breeze - Ecotech 1.0 engine has recently been giving me intermitant problems. It starts fine when the engine is completely cold and drives like normal. The problem seems to occur when I go to restart the car after it has been used 1.5 to 2.5 hours previously i.e I drove to the cinema roughly 5 miles away, watched a film and when getting back to the car it didn't start. The engine turns over but just doesn't seem to fire the engine. I left it for aroung 15 minutes and tried again. it eventually started after holding the key turned for a minute.
It happened again after driving 10 miles, going shopping and returning almost two hours afterwards and it refused to start. We decided to leave it and return 1.5 hours later and it started first time. Whenever this has happened it seems to be on a wamr sunny day but that may just be coincidence.

We are going to try changing the spark plugs to see if that works but if anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful. Thanks

Plugs are a good start if not try an oil and filter change it might be just oil is too thick or fuel filter blocked without looking at it hard to tell you what the problem is

It sounds like the pickup coil in the distributor, when it gets hot, it goes open circuit. Changing the plugs won,t help

Check the engine top heat shield and the undercarriage heat shields. They may be loose and rattling. Give 'em a bump with your hand and see if they rattle. If they do, tighten them.

The techs at Vauxall may have failed to tighten the upper heat shield when they replaced the timing belt.

Vauxhall Corsa turns over but won't start

How long does it take for your battery to go flat, if it's after a few turns and not firing most common problem is crankshaft sensor located at back of engine by starter motor easier to access from underside of car only one bolt holding in which is a torx but can get a hex socket on if not got torx and simple plug fit on sensor . Hope this helps

Corsa dosn't start very well when warm

fuel heater fault. there is a heater in line with the with the glow plug wiring ing heats the fuel for a good fire. when engine temp get to normal it turns off. if not working the engine just floods. folloe the fuel line till it goes into the cacing and look round that area for some were coming out that will be were the heater is.

Vauxhall Corsa engine management light

as this a uk car the easiest way to diagnose the problem is to take it into quickfit for a diagnostic check(cost a little, but infinately easier.)and if you want them to fix any problem you cant handle its already in thier workshop(last time i did this was on an astra estate 1.6 petrol, problem was down to faulty exhaust sensor saved me hours of "fun"cost me £38 total.....)

I want to find out what car my engine is from

find numbers on the engine maybe they forgot to remove the old vin... other than that find the engine specs marked somewhere on the block that will give you a common manufacturer. exactly what type and model is guess work but you should be able to say something close to honda civic between 1901 and 1910
