To get rid of ticking after repairs simle drive around block should fix that it needs engine load to bleed lifters properly this will also stop after a while from reving engine while stationary if it doesnt go away at all after a day say at worse case you have an issue with oil pressure?
or faulty lifter
wouldnt be a bad idea to also check that you got timing marks right they should all align up again

Does this car take a valve lash adjustment and what are the settings

Your car has hydraulic lifters. Hydraulic lifters just means that it uses engine oil to control the valve clearances using a bucket and shim arrangement.
Here's a generic image of what a hydraulic lifter can look like:25949035-hsh3lir2aljnaf1jzrgt1uh1-5-0.jpg

If the car makes a tapping sound at start up, this points to a problem in the camshaft area - including the hydraulic lifers/shims. Valve clearances are controlled by the lifters and shims. It could also be a worn camshaft - the lobes can become rounded.

Usually, there is no adjustment possible with most hydraulic lifters. Replacement (usually) means you have to remove the camshaft, though I am by no means certain about your particular model.

If you have the tools and ability, remove the rocker cover and have a look at things.

25949035-hsh3lir2aljnaf1jzrgt1uh1-5-1.jpg The image above shows a camshaft - the lobe is worn and rounded. When this happens valve clearance is excessive and may lead to a tapping noise. Engine efficiency is also affected.

The image below shows hydraulic lifters (example only..).
The lifter on the left has a 'dished' surface - wear caused by the camshaft or the lifter not being able to 'turn' in its bore.
25949035-hsh3lir2aljnaf1jzrgt1uh1-5-3.jpg The usual cause of this is (a) short trips where the engine hasn't had a chance to warm up properly and pump oil to the camshaft area (b) poor oil/infrequent oil changes (c) stuck lifter.

Before you spend money on parts or repairs, first try adding some oil flush to the engine to clear out carbon and 'sticky' deposits.

25949035-hsh3lir2aljnaf1jzrgt1uh1-5-10.jpg
... follow the instructions on the bottle...
Then change your engine oil and add something like a 'valve train additive' - this will try and quieten the tapping noise.
The (Ebay) link below will give you an idea of what additives are available (and so will your local car accessory shop).

Try the cheapest and easiest first. If that doesn't work .. unless you are confident that you can inspect, diagnose and replace parts .. give a mobile mechanic a call. Those guys are usually quite good.

What cause tick tick noise in my cylinder head, funny part when I drive& apply clutch the noise disapear.(Ford bantam 1.8diesel endura de) do I need to change oil or bent valves? Pls help

A ticking noise in the cylinder head area is usually associated with the camshaft/followers, which may be worn.
Here's a couple if images: cause-tick-tick-noise-in-cylinder-drn4r4jcf5cpqfgonvky3zim-5-0.jpg The lobe of the camshaft wears - becomes 'rounded'

cause-tick-tick-noise-in-cylinder-drn4r4jcf5cpqfgonvky3zim-5-1.jpg The cam follower - what the camshaft pushes against to open and close the valves - can become worn.. 'dished' at the top.

It is unlikely you will have to change any valves, unless of course there is wear/damage.

The reason why the tick noise disappears when you are driving is because oil is getting pumped up to the camshaft area, between the cam lobe and the follower and acting as a 'cushion'.

A vehicle that has hydraulic lifters.. they control valve clearances by using oil. Like conventional cam followers, they can wear.

Changing your oil won't cure any wear. You could try using a valve train additive to try and quieten things down.

Engine ticking noise, VW Passat 2000 1.9 tdi 116 CH

the next mechanic needs to be thorough. if there is a hard knock, its a hard mechanical issue! were the piston and rod assemblies checked? that requires removal of the head. chances are you could have a busted piston.

Lifter noise lexus ls430 2001

Lifter noise(s) can be a combination of things........ 1. High mileage on engine. 2. Not using the correct oil. 3. Lots of sludge build up in motor due to lack of oil changes and the quality of oil that you are using. Hydraulic lifters rarely fail but it does happen, given the conditions on how the car was maintained. I can offer you a solution but no guarantees on what might quiet this lifter down. It's a 50/50 chance. On your next oil change, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a facility that sells BG products. It's a company that formulates chemicals that have great cleaning properties to your fuel system and oil lubricating systems in your engine and at the same time, it is safe on all rubber seals in your engine. (Especially Higher Milage Vehicles) Ask for BG MOA to be added in you next oil change or if you do your own oil changes, you can find this product on line and can purchase from there. What the BG MOA does, it helps break up sludge and build up on the inside of your engine and helps to free up your valves, piston rings and noisy lifter(s). Hydraulic lifter(s) tend to make noise when they can't sufficiently pump up with oil due to sludge and build up blocking the oil inlet passage. Worn lifters on cold start up may be very noticeable but eventually the ticking goes away after engine warms up and the hydraulic lifter(s) had time to pump up. Make sure that you don't have a exhaust manifold leaking as well due to a crack or a failing exhaust manifold gasket. This can also emit a ticking noise in which can be misdiagnosed for a ticking lifter. A leaking exhaust manifold can usually be identified by the ticking noise getting louder and faster when accelerating and quieter and slower when decelerating. Ticking noise is loud on cold start ups but not noticeable at all when engine is at operating temperature. Hope this will help you out.

I have a ticking sound in my 2003 Ford Escape... I have replaced the timing chain, crankshaft rod bearings, and lifters. My camshaft is showing signs of wear but mechanic says its withing specs. Nothing...

Have you tried Listining too it and see if it's just the Piston's pin's? we call it wrist pin noises. Some engines just have and some dont.If that's what it is dont worry about it.Have you trid going too a heavier oil?Take too some one you TRUST and see if they will listen too see if thats the problem..

Does my 2005 chevy cavalier have adjustable hydrolic lifters

Hi, your engine has hydraulic lifters, but they are not adjustable. If you hear ticking there, a lifter has likely failed and needs to be replaced. please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Hi i have a ticking noise in my vg30e pathfinder, i believe it may be a hydrolic lifter, what are the adjustment specifications

The lifters on your vehicle would not be adjustable, so depending on mileage, a lifter could need replacing. Listen to this sound to determine if it is at engine speed, or at camshaft speed, which is half as fast. If at engine speed, it could be any number of things. If at camshaft speed, it couild be a broken vavle spring, a sticky valve or a noisy lifter.

Need the valve gap for 1991 mighty max

Does not have adjustable valves . It has hydrolic valve lasher's . they are spring loaded ( i believe ) . I just replaced them in mine . valve giude seal's where worn out causing it to smoke realy bad ( looked like a mosqito truck ) and the valves where ticking , due to the hydrolic valve lash adjuster's being worn out . They are about $ 8 - 10 buck's each at advance .
