Possibly a damaged injector putting to much fuel in,or could be a fuel pump timing fault.

Nissan Maxima engine oil smells like gas. White smoke coming from tail pipe

if the oil smells like gas then there is either too much fuel entering the cylinder and not being burnt or the oil has not been changed with in the change interval. also if you take short trips a lot this can cause this as the engine won`t get hot enough to burn excess fuel and it is always in cold mode allowing more fuel supplied than is needed. the white smoke usually indicates coolant burning, but keep in mind when its cold out you will get what looks like white smoke but is steam from the exhaust. does the smoke smell like something sweet as this will indicate coolant.

Black smoke and bad fuel consumption what is the problem? Oh it an 07is volvo s40 20d

Hi there:Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.
How did the fuel get into the cylinder in the first place? Some of the causes of excess fuel are a carburetor that is out of adjustment, a faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor. If black smoke is present, check the engine oil as in the white smoke example to make sure excess fuel has not contaminated it. Do not start the engine if a heavy, raw fuel smell can be detected in the engine oil. Call your mechanic and advise him of what you have found.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

The oil smells like raw fuel any ideas what this could be?

I would suspect that you might have a leaky injector. When this happens after you turn the engine off instead of staying sealed and holding pressure one or more injectors drip. The fuel gets past the pistons and rings and winds up in the oil. This is about the only way you can get raw fuel in the engine oil. When this happens the engine will normally run normally. On occasion you will get a little smoke upon start up, but not always. You should get this checked out ASAP because fuel in the oil can damage the engine.

2005 expedition 5.4 bank 1 too rich, cylinder 1 misfire, o2 sensor 1 error, I changed o2 sensor, spark plug & coil but engine is still smoking, raw fuel, doesn't seem to be firing on bank 1

un plug the fuel injector and see if the raw fuel smell, goes way, if it does the injector could be stuck open. if this is the case the more you run it the more fuel is getting into the crank case, this can wash the bearings and ruin the engine, check the oil see if you smell fuel if you do, you will have to pull up the injector rail with all the injectors and cycle the key one time, watch that injector to see if it drips fuel after the rest have stopped . if it leaks replace the injector all the injector o rings and change the oil.

Black smoke indicates no air, check your air filter, if you have done that and it is ok, check the PCV valve. Thats about all that I can suggest. Hope that helps.

Black smoke comes from exhuast when engine gets hot

black smoke is raw gas burning. a rich condition could be the cause---a bad oxygen sensor, a bad map sensor, a bad fuel pressure regulator, a plugged up air filter, or bad injector. if it was a oil problem then you can smell it. when after running til hot. shut off engine and rub finger around inside of tailpipe to tell! have a good one!!

White smoke coming from the exhaust smells gas.

white smoke usually means that your car is dumping raw fuel into the cylinder without burning off. You may have a bad injector or fuel pressure regulator.

What can i do? my galant is blowing black smoke at my tail pipe

Black smoke is indicative of a car running rich meaning more fuel than can be burned is entering the cylinder. Some causes of this condition are a bad fuel pump, a bad PCM, and more likely a leaking injector. Check the oil to make sure there is no raw fuel smell present. Look at the injectors first as this is a common cause of the problem.
