1988 jetta needs fuel filter and where is it? I run low on gas in it starts dying out is this the fuel pump or just a dirty fuel filter. I cab hear the whining under back seat.

you may find the fuel filter underneath the vehicle near the rear wheel, running low on gas could be the problem, the whirring noise is most likely the fuel pump.....hope this helps.....cheers.

start procedure is to hold accelerator half down, turn key, wait for injector light to go out, then hold down clutch pedal and start. do not pump the gas. just hold it 1/2 down. when car starts, release gas and then rev it up until the alternator light goes out.

93 jetta will not stay running even though it has gas in it

I would bet that your fuel line is either clogged with dirt or you fuel pump is not working. Pull the air cleaner or cover off of the injector. Then try to start the car. If you don't get anything then try a small amount of gas into the injector. Try starting immediately. If it starts then dies it's one of the two. If the engine continues to run it is most likely your fuel injector or a slight chance it is a fuse. VW's are great cars but they can be tempermental. Have you googled your car year and make for recalls or simlar issues with other owners? Good Luck
