Window not working, can hear motor, can manually move window up & down, heard something drop inside door now window rattles

Upon taking door panel off, discovered motor hanging in door well. When previous owner install speakers they didn't tighten motor screws so they vibrated loose.

  • cjnsla Jan 04, 2010

Someone had replaced the speakers and didn't secure all the bolts holding the power motor so it was rattling and blocking the window from working correctly.

For some reason your window has fallen off the track that it rides on as it goes up and down. You will have to remove the inner door panel and replace it on the track or guides. This is close work and you will be exposed to sharp edges of the door.

Window motor replaced a year ago, now the window is stuck halfway. It will nudge up or down just a tiny bit, but no further

Try scrubbing the dirt out of the channels using a child's toothbrush. If that doesn't work, remove the inner door panel and check for window jumped out of track as a result of door slamming. Also be sure track mounting screw at bottom of tracks is tight and check operation with the panel off to be sure window raises and lowers smoothly without cocking in the tracks.

Chevy Malibu 2005 window wont roll up or down.

Sounds like the window regulator broke (the mechanism that moves your window up and down). It has cable to do the lifting the window up and pulling the window down. These cables do break.

Rear window stopped hear something moving

This means the window has slid out of the clips at the base that connect the window to the motor arms. try pushing down on the window up against the clamp and see if it snaps back in. if it does not you might have to open up the inside of the door and push it in from there.

While my window was rolling down i heard a crack and now it wont move but i can still hear the motor?

It sounds like the mechanism which makes the window move when the window motor gears turn is broke. This part is called a Window Regulator. It is plastic and looks like a big belt with teeth.

Any glass shop can replace one in an hour or so. It is a common repair for many brands of vehicles. You can price the repair by calling your local shops for the best deal. Many have waiting areas like a tire store or Dealer.

The part can cost $35 to $65 dollars and labor of about an hour. There are sometimes hidden clips or screws in the door panels which complicate removal of the door panels. Plus some of the Electric controls are in the door panel for seats, locks, mirrors, etc. If not reassembled correctly you could have Rattles and water leaks and pinched Electric wires. It will take a novice several hours to do.

If affordable let a Pro do this for you.

Power window not working, motor and electric good, whats wrong?

Well either the gears aunt lined up correctly or the motor old and tired. Doesn't have enough power/torque to spin gears. might just need a new motor.

no this is something you can do yourself what you need to buy first is a window motor and regulator this is the motor track system prety simple to fix but you need to pull the window up by hand and wedge it in place so it won't move till you are ready to reattach it to the new track

Drivers window won't role up or down

Hello,

I think I know what your problem is.... It sounds like you need a motor/regulator assembly. There's a cable that attaches the motor to the regulator (part that moves the window up and down ) power is transferred this way. over time the cable breaks allowing the glass to fall to the bottom sometimes and won't go up. electrically it's ok because you can hear the motor run. (good job on the description by the way :) ) you will need to replace the regulator.

If you are technical inclined, you can replace it yourself if you like. most of the work is taking the door panel off. With this kind of stuff I recommend that you don't attempt this one unless you've taking a door panel off before. If you decide to do it, invest in service manual to assist your work. It can be fairly difficult of you've never done one before.
