Question about 1996 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

After the ABS light came on I noticed a hissing or whirring sound coming from under the hood. I found the source marked ABS with 4 tubes coming out of it. I assume this is some kind of ABS pump. The sound continued for over 12 hours!

When key turned vacuum pump operates but continues to make a whirring noise and doors not opening

Sounds like your vaccuum locking system has been compromised and is leaking from someplace.

You really don't say what vehicle it is or how old it is.

The vacuum tubes normally can be found near the hinges of your doors. If you have kids, start troubleshooting on the back doors.

Then under the hood would be next.

Its a process of divide and conquer.

Air noise coming from under bonnet audi a8 d2

Sound is completely normal on all Audi's.
Your A8 uses an Orifice tube to regulate the pressure between the two halves of your air conditioning system. A hissing sound is normal after a shut down as the system equalises. Usually lasts about a minute and is more noticeable on warmer days.
Location on an A8 is on the very right hand side of the bonnet just under the windscreen - that's where the hissing will be coming from.

Given it's not snakes, this sounds like it could be a vacuum leak. I would try to locate the source of the hiss -- you'll probably find a loose hose connection or a damaged hose.

Sounds like the the black rubber line and plug you found up front is the breather tube for the front differential the plug for the rear end should be on the drivers side of the vehicle like if you crawl under it right in front of the rear tire the plug is on the front side of your rear end it should take a 3/8 ratchet to take the plug out.The tranny issue could be needing to change the vacuum modulator and a tranny filter, fluid change.

EIther the ABS pump is bad and will have to be repaired by the dealer or specialy licensed ABS mechanic, or you can do what I do and pull the ABS fuse under hood and not use them.

Trac Off Light always lit

Hello, let's see what we can do.
To answer your question, yes they are related. Either your ABS system is malfunctioning, you need to replace your brake pads or the vacuum booster is leaking.
Do you hear a hissing sound under the hood? If so it might be the vacuum booster. Does the engine run rough when you apply the brakes? That can indicate the same problem. Let me know what you find.
