Turn key, cranks but no fuel still after new pump.
I dropped the tank and replaced the pump yet, turn the key and still no start. It cranks but still no fuel pump "activation" sound. New coil packs, plugs, wires. Not sure anymore what there is between the key and the pump.

Re: turn key, cranks but no fuel still after new pump.
Every key cycle(5 secs appart) will turn pump on for 3 seconds. This is done to insure pressure at the injector when cranking, otherwise hard starting would insue. The engine computer drives a relay in the underhood junction box which sends 12 volts to the pump.An audible click of that relay and the pump can be heard key on/engine off for 3 secs via the ignition signal to the ecm which drives the fuel pump relay.

If the truck turns over, but will not start. The most common problem is the fuel pump. When you turn the key to the ON position, you should hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds. You may have to open the gas cap to hear it. If you can't hear it with the gas cap off, then that is going to be your problem. They are in the top of the fuel tank. And they are not real easy to change. You either have to drop the fuel tank or take the bed off. I personally take the bed off. It is a lot easier if you have a couple of people to help you. Dropping the tank is no fun at all. Plus it makes getting the ring that holds the fuel pump in a lot more difficult to get off. If this helps you please rate by checking the 4 thumbs up! Thanks for using Fixya.com
The fuelpump is located inside the gas tank, you will need to drop the tank to replace the pump, heres a picture of the pump and in goes in through the top of the tank, the fuelpump is called a fuelpump module because it comes complete with holder sending unit and all other parts as you will see in the picture, hope this helps, good luck.
I would start by spraying starting fluid in the air filter. If it starts then you will know for sure it is a fuel problem. A way you can check the fuel pump is take off the gas cap. Have someone listen where the cap was. Turn the key to the on position and the person listening should hear the fuel pump run for about 5 seconds. If it doesn't run it could be the fuel pump relay which is under the hood on the driver side. You can swap it for the one next to it temporarily. But 98% of the time it is the fuel pump. You have to drop the fuel tank. It is held up by 2 straps. And the fuel pump is in the top of the tank. You have to turn a retainer ring half a turn to get the pump out. Be sure to get the filter on the new one really good. It will ruin the new pump the first time you start the car. It will **** up dirt off of the bottom of the tank.
First check you are getting spark to plugs. If yes check for fuel. You can spray starting fluid in intake when you pull off intake rubber hose that sits on top of engine. If you start momentarily you have fuel problems. Turn key forward just where its left after you start. Listen for fuelpump to whine back by gas tank filler. If no noise most likely fuelpump. Always change fuel filter right after its install.
Yes the fuel tank has to come out to replace the fuel pump.Easier if tank is 1/4 tank or lower. Before doing this make sure that your getting power to the fuel pump.If not check the fuses and the connector for the fuel pump. You can check for power with a test light. It will be the gray wire.Light should come on when the key is turned on.Will only stay on for 2 or 3 seconds unless you crank it.Hope this helps.Good luck.
Your going to have to drop the gas tank to get to the fuel pump, The crank sensor will give you a check engine light on or service engine light on. Good luck and hope this helps. You can go to Auto Zone and pick up the fuel pump and they will have the step by step instructions for you to replace the fuel pump,oh and replace the fuel filter again when you replace the pump. Good luck and hope this helps. The other cause of stalling is the MAP sensor may have gone bad, or the EGR valve may be stuck open from carbon build up, just remove it and clean it out with Carb cleaner. Good luck and hope this helps you get your car running 100% again. Keep me posted be glad to help you save some money.
Start with the fuel pump relay. (swap the relay with another one, like the fan relay) If it won't start, Take the fuel line off the fuel filter and turn the key on and off. each time the key is turned on, the pump will run for aprox.3 sec. There may be fuel pumping out of the line so be careful. If no fuel, it's most likley the pump. Drop the tank and check the wires for fire and good connection. You dont want to replace a pump for no reason.
My 98 Cherokee was the exact same. I used to have to turn the key back and forth 3 times and then it would start. Otherwise it would just crank and crank for a while and then start. Pretty embarrassing! Took it to the dealer and they said that my fuel pump was losing pressure. I changed the fuel pump and I don't have to prime the pump anymore.
The fuel pressure check valve in the electric fuel pump has failed, you will have to replace the fuel pump, it is in the gas tank, also replace the filter at the same time or the warranty on the new pump will be voided.
fuel pump died replaced it truck ran poorly afterwards. Had a prussuer test done pump determend pump was no good. Put in another ran good for 2 days started running poorly hard to start no power. 2nd fuel pump. So i figure another bad new fuel pump wow changed it put in a third brand new fuel pump. Still will not eve start now. I had it tuned up 2 months ago new plugs rotor, cap, etc. put in a new fuel filter made sure it is on proper checked all connections for leaks. this cannot be a fuel pump problem now. no problem with the elctrical i figure i have great spark on ignition tester. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key. but when i went and checked the fuel port i had no pressure. When it is being cranked gas sews out of the test port. Also i dont if this is comon cause i used to turn my keyand go. but when i have someone turn the key and i listen at the gas tank whn the key is shut off i hear gs spraying back into the gas tank. So i am open for opinions.
