did I mention that I just replace the transmission and the first time I did turn the engine ON, I got the check engine light, the trany does 1st, 2dn, reverse, neutral and parking but no 3rd and D, on 3rd acts
like 2nd and on D acts like 1st,
some people tells me that I need to bring down the transmission AGAIN and replease selenoide A and B and the torque converter as well.

will that fix my problem? or the transmission is trash!!!! I bough it used from a Silverado 2001 5.3 4X4
the truck had an accident........ a thousand thanks for your help............

This is a somewhat common problem in GM SUV's. The first and third error code are solenoid and the second one is a speed sensor. All of these share the same power source which comes from the Ignition Feed circuit of your ignition switch. I doubt that all three of these went out at the same time because it's highly unlikely. That being said, I think if you change the power source out this will fix your problem and will be the easiest/cheapest solution. You need to replace the ELECTRICAL portion of your ignition switch, not the lock cylinder portion. This should get you fixed up. Good luck and let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

Thanks for the additional info. That completely changes what the problem is. Unfortunately it sounds like you are going to need to replace those solenoids and your speed sensor. The bad thing is that you won't really know if the transmission is shot until your replace these. Most auto parts stores will allow you to return these items if it doesn't fix your problem so you shouldn't have to worry about being out the money just the time if it is shot. Sorry to give you the bad news. Good luck and let me know if I can help you any more. Thanks, Keith.

Yes, I'm assuming that the old transmission is the same as the new and that would save you some serious cash if you still have the old one handy. Switch those solenoids out and the speed sensor and then reset your CEL. If it comes back on, I think you've got a bad "new" transmission. Thanks again!

You have to drain the transmission fluid and pull the pan to get to the solenoid. What engine is it the 5.3 or the 4.8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jeb0KpAN_g

GM service engine code P1870/2000 GMC Sonoma 2.2 cylinder

you jave a biggie here.
here is some info
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the difference between engine speed and transmission output speed. In D3 drive range with the TCC engaged, the engine speed should closely match the transmission output speed. In D4 drive range, with the TCC engaged, the TCC slip speed should be -20 to +60 RPM .

When the PCM detects excessive TCC slip when the TCC should be engaged, then DTC P1870 sets. DTC P1870 is a type B DTC.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
  • No TP sensor DTCs P0122 or P0123.
  • No VSS assembly DTCs P0502 or P0503.
  • No TCC solenoid valve DTC P0740.
  • No 1-2 SS valve DTC P0753.
  • No 2-3 SS valve DTC P0758.
  • No 3-2 SS valve assembly DTC P0785.
  • No TCC PWM solenoid valve DTC P1860.
  • The engine is not in fuel cutoff.
  • The engine torque is 40-400 lb ft .
  • The TP angle is 12-50% .
  • The vehicle speed is 56-112 km/h (35-70 mph ).
  • The speed ratio is 0.64-0.95 (the speed ratio is the engine speed divided by the transmission output speed).
  • The engine speed is 1500-3500 RPM .
  • The gear range is D4.
  • The commanded gear is not 1st gear
  • The TFT is between 20-130°C (68-266°F) .
  • The shift solenoid performance diagnostic counters are zero.
